We are seeking a highly capable Oracle Database Application and Support Team Lead who will provide technical leadership and direction while remaining hands-on in Oracle Database administration, troubleshooting, and upgrade support for 100+ customer environments, including high-profile Public Sector organisations.

About the Role
This is a technical lead role involving both hands-on database administration and leadership responsibilities. The successful candidate will support a team of analysts and function as a primary escalation point for complex Oracle and application-related issues.
Main Responsibilities
Hands-On Technical Responsibilities
- Act as a senior technical engineer for Oracle Database platforms and related application stacks.
- Lead Oracle Database upgrades, patching, and software deployments in customer environments.
- Perform 3rd-line diagnostics and fault resolution, including:
- Performance tuning
- Data recovery support
- Backup failure investigations
- Application connectivity issues
- Proactively review monitoring, capacity, performance, and backup metrics, implementing preventative measures.
- Support backup, recovery, and restore solutions, aiming to enhance operational effectiveness.
- Lead technical investigations for major incidents, completing root cause analysis and preventative fixes.
- Maintain and improve technical documentation, runbooks, and support procedures.
Technical Leadership
- Serve as the primary escalation point for complex technical issues.
- Collaborate with cross-team analysts (e.g., Networks, UNIX/Linux, Cloud Ops) to resolve issues.
- Set technical standards and best practices for:
- Database administration
- Application support
- Review and quality-check technical changes before implementation.
- Act as a technical mentor, elevating the skill set of the team.

Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
- Engage directly with customers to:
- Schedule critical work
- Manage competing priorities
- Translate complex technical issues into clear, understandable recommendations for:
- Stakeholders
- Internal and customer teams
- Provide strategic guidance on:
- Database stability
- Performance improvements
- Resilience planning
- Upgrade strategy
Continuous Improvement & Automation
- Drive inefficiency reduction by:
- Automating maintenance processes
- Developing scripted health checks
- Optimising deployment/upgrade workflows
- Reduce manual effort, improve reliability, and enhance customer outcomes.
- Collaborate with cross-team specialists (e.g., Networks, UNIX/Linux, Cloud Ops) to resolve cross-platform issues.
Qualifications
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong hands-on expertise in:
- Oracle Database administration (including upgrades/patching)
- Single-instance environments
- Direct support experience for Oracle-based public sector software, specifically:
- Revenue & benefits solutions
- Housing platforms
- Live production support in customer environments
- Practical experience with ITSM tools (e.g., Ivanti, ServiceNow, ServiceNow alternatives).
- Linux, Solaris, and Windows administration required (Windows a bonus).
- Hands-on Apache Tomcat-based application installation and support.
- Excellent customer communication skills (onsite, video, telephone, email).
- Eligibility for UK Security Clearance.

- Oracle certification
- Apache Web Server configuration & support
- Unix/Linux shell scripting for automation
- Experience developing automated backup/recovery processes
- Advanced networking concepts for database/application support
- Technical documentation and runbook development
