Oracle Database Engineer

Location: Christchurch – on-site

Salary: Up to £52,500 depending on skills and experience

Core Duties

Working across the full development lifecycle—including requirements, design, specification, implementation, and acceptance testing:

  • Design and implement database tables and models
  • Develop and maintain database packages using Structured Query Language (SQL)
  • Monitor and enhance Oracle database performance, keeping up with updates via the Oracle website, requesting patches, and identifying vulnerabilities (Horizon scanning for risks)
  • Configure Windows, Linux, and RHEL operating systems
  • Create bespoke applications and automated deployments using PowerShell

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience with Oracle Database 19c, particularly in Windows Server environments
  • Strong understanding of best practices for user management, roles, and profiles to ensure least-privilege access controls
  • Hands-on experience with Oracle Critical Patch Updates (CPU) and Patch Set Updates (PSU)
    • Includes patch assessment, planning, and implementation using OPatch
  • Experience supporting production environments, including troubleshooting incidents and conducting root cause analysis
  • Familiarity with the systems development lifecycle from design to testing
  • Defence domain knowledge is desirable

The Role & Team

This position is part of our progressive Systems & Software Programme in Christchurch. The programme spans multiple disciplines—design, development, installation, implementation, integration, acceptance, training, and logistics support—delivering critical solutions to Ministry of Defence (MoD) locations nationwide.
