The role aims to lead and innovate developing applications that support Balfour Beatty's operations. This position is crucial for creating robust, scalable software solutions, enhancing operational efficiency, and driving digital transformation across the organisation.
Primarily office-based but offers the flexibility of remote working arrangements in line with Balfour Beatty’s commitment to flexible working practices. Full time, although part time or job-share opportunities are considered to attract those who may not be available full-time.
What you'll be doing
- Demonstrate exceptional competence be self-driven in developing and deploying advanced applications Oracle tools such as:
- Oracle Developer Suite
- Oracle Application Express (APEX)
- Oracle workflow
- OAF and Java (desirable)
- An in-depth experience of Oracle E Business Suite Modules, specialising in:
- Oracle OTL
- Oracle HR
- Oracle HR Self Service
- Oracle Payroll (UK legislative knowledge)
- Oracle OLM
- Compensation WorkBench
- A good functional and technical experience of the above modules
- Develop, test, and deploy backend solutions using traditional programming languages PL/SQL and LINIX to extend and support OTL/HR and Payroll.
- Influence software architecture decisions and contribute to strategic planning sessions.
- Ensure seamless integration of developed applications with other enterprise systems using APIs and custom connectors.
- Oversee project timelines, deliverables, and resource allocation for multiple development projects.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, design solutions, and provide expertise.
- Guide and support less experienced team members, sharing knowledge and best practices.
- Mentor entry level developers and encourage a culture of knowledge sharing.
- Facilitate development cycles, and project briefings in collaboration with project management.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives in software development practices and technologies.
- Oversee ongoing maintenance, support, and enhancements in Oracle HR and EBS
- Troubleshoot complex issues arising from operations and swiftly implement solutions.
- Support and advise the OTL and Payroll support teams
- Ensure solutions comply with industry standards and best practices in security and data protection.
- Create documentation for system architectures, dependencies, and processes to guide future projects and provide clear understanding.

Who we're looking for
- A bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field. Open to individuals with transferable skills from other sectors showing aptitude for technical learning and problem-solving.
- Strong troubleshooting and escalation management skills. Leadership skills for mentoring and guiding entry level staff. Excellent communication skills with an understanding of how to communicate to various stakeholders at different levels within an organisation.
- Proven experience in managing large-scale projects and using agile methodologies.
- Advanced Technical Knowledge: Experience with AI integration and creating automated workflows.
- Cloud Solutions: Knowledge in deploying and managing applications on cloud platforms like Azure.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to analyse complex systems and troubleshoot integration issues.
