Role Description
This full-time Oral Surgery Resident role is an on-site position based in Greater London within UCLH’s specialist dental and surgical services. The resident will participate in the assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients requiring oral and maxillofacial surgery, including outpatient clinics, elective procedures, and emergency cases.

Day-to-day duties include:

- Taking comprehensive histories
- Performing clinical examinations
- Assisting in surgeries
- Managing perioperative care
- Contributing to multidisciplinary team meetings
The role also involves:
- Providing high-quality dental care
- Supervising junior trainees where appropriate
- Maintaining accurate clinical documentation
- Adhering to clinical governance and safety standards
Residents are expected to:
- Engage in teaching activities
- Attend educational programs
- Contribute to audit and research projects that support service improvement and professional development
Qualifications
- Demonstrated competence in Oral Surgery and Dental Care, with the ability to manage a range of routine and complex oral conditions.
- Foundational experience or training in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, including participation in surgical procedures and multidisciplinary case management.
- Knowledge of Anesthesiology principles relevant to oral surgery, including patient assessment, sedation considerations, and perioperative risk management.
- Core surgical skills and understanding of Surgery best practices, including aseptic technique, tissue handling, and postoperative care.
- Recognized dental degree (e.g., BDS or equivalent) and full registration with the relevant dental council or regulatory body.
- Strong clinical decision-making, communication, and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively in a diverse, multidisciplinary environment.
- Commitment to patient-centered care, clinical governance, and continuous professional development, including participation in audit and research.
- Previous hospital-based experience in oral or maxillofacial disciplines and evidence of interest in academic or teaching activities are advantageous.
