Summary

We want to be the water company people want to be supplied by and want to work for. As an Organic Chemistry Analyst, you’ll be joining our Water Quality team to prepare and perform routine and non-routine trace analysis using state of the art analytical instrumentation. The role will also involve data interpretation, maintenance, organising workloads and assisting in the implementation of new methodologies.
We will encourage you to seek professional qualifications that will further your understanding and knowledge of Water Supply Regulations. As such, you will need a minimum of an NVQ Level 3 or above (or relevant academic qualification) in a scientific subject, to seek and eventually obtain full membership of the relevant professional body.
The capabilities of our laboratories are market leading, and we are currently undergoing an expansion of our operations. You’ll be surrounded by modern facilities and encouragement to share ideas to help implement new methods.

Main responsibilities
- Ensure instrumentation is operated and analysis performed in line with the Laboratory Management system.
- Assist with the maintenance and troubleshooting of LC-MS, GC-MS and preparatory equipment.
- Analyse and interpret data, calculate results and complete all laboratory paperwork.
- Document information by maintaining daily logs and equipment record books.
- Ensure data is accurately entered into the Laboratory Information Management System within set timeframes.
- Ensure that the sample stability and turnaround for the given analysis is met.
- Prepare standards, reagents and Quality Control Samples in accordance with company internal procedures.
- Work towards being a competent person according requirements set out in the Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations 2016 and to actively pursue Continued Professional Development.

Skills / Qualifications / Experience (essential)
- Have existing knowledge of good laboratory practice.
- Achieved a relevant academic qualification or scientific subject at NVQ level 3 equivalent or above.
- Achieved or be working towards full membership of the professional body.
- Have excellent numeracy, literacy, computer literacy and laboratory skills to engage in robust analytical laboratory practice.
Skills / Qualifications / Experience (desirable)
- Previous knowledge and/or experience of good laboratory practice.
- Employees are required to be flexible and to be prepared to perform duties and other tasks within their capabilities.
