Role and Facility Information
The Orthopaedic Department at East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook, BC is seeking a full-time orthopaedic surgeon to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to come live, work and play in the Kootenay Rockies! The five surgeons currently on staff provide general orthopaedics, hip/knee arthroplasty, upper extremity and sports surgery coverage. The team is specifically looking for candidates with an interest in general community orthopaedics.
Fellowship training in arthroplasty, trauma, and/or lower extremity/foot and ankle is considered an asset but our priority is finding a good fit with our group.
Call is equally distributed and averages 1:5. Elective OR time averages one day per week. There is a hospital-based cast clinic with two certified cast technicians. Assigned cast clinic time is about one day a week. There may be capacity to share an office or you may set up your own office.
As part of the selection process, it is expected that shortlisted candidates will work as a locum for a determined period of time in order to allow the candidate to become familiar with the team, the work site, and the community before the final decision is made.

Successful candidates will possess or be eligible for FRCSC certification, or equivalent, in orthopaedics. Candidates must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.
The position is fee-for-service and is eligible for rural retention and rural CME funding. Based on the location of the site, we are also eligible for the rural fee premium, which is currently 14%. The IHA recruitment bonus for this site is $20,000 with an additional relocation bonus of $9,000 if relocating within province, $12,000 if out of province or $15,000 if out of country.

Compensation
- Compensation Type: Fee-for-Service
- Estimated Remuneration: $425

Benefits and Incentives

- May be eligible for additional remuneration in accordance with the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA) including:
- Retention Premium 14%
- Retention Flat Fee $14,076
- Relocation Funding Available: $9K within BC, $12K within Canada; $15K internationally
- Recruitment Incentive: $20,000 for full time
- Other Benefits/Incentives: Rural incentives for Cranbrook specialists also include Rural CME funding as follows:
- Up to 2 years: $1,800
- In 3rd & 4th year: $4,800
- After 4 years: $7,800
- Rural incentives are subject to change and current rates are confirmed at time of offer.
