About Us
The Orthotic Works designs and supplies custom-made functional foot orthoses (FFOs) using advanced digital gait analysis. Established in the UK in 2003, we are proud to be backed by our Canadian manufacturing partner, established in 1976.
Based in York and travelling nationwide to consumer events, we combine decades of international expertise with a personal, family-run approach. We help thousands of people each year reduce pain, improve movement, and stay active. We are now looking for an Orthotic Technician & Event Lead to join our team and contribute to this ongoing success.
The Role
This role combines FFO orthotic work and technical sales with the responsibility of leading our presence at national events.
Our event schedule typically runs in an alternating pattern rather than long, continuous stretches away: one week you might be away from Wednesday to Sunday, home the following week, then away again from Thursday to Sunday or Monday to Thursday. At these events, you will perform gait analysis using plantar pressure systems, assess customers' biomechanical needs, and provide expert recommendations. You will act as the technical lead on-site, managing the transition from digital gait analysis to the order of custom orthotics, ensuring every customer receives a professional, consistent experience.
Outside of events, you will be based at our York office supporting manufacturing, customer follow-up, and in-person consultations. Over time, you will take on increased responsibility in clinical decision-making, training others, and shaping our operations.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
