Operational Technology (OT) Field Engineer
Salary
Circa £47,500 (dependent on skills and experience) + Overtime + Standby + Company Vehicle (including PPE, tools, and fuel card provided)
Location
Field-based role covering Milton Keynes, Northampton, Bedford, Cambridge, Peterborough, and surrounding areas
Employment Type
- Permanent
- Full-time (37 hours per week) with flexibility for part-time
About the Role
Operational Technology (OT) refers to the digital assets at the core of Anglian Water’s industrial operations, enabling remote monitoring and control of water collection, treatment, and distribution processes. This role focuses on maintaining this critical infrastructure to ensure real-time operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
Core Duties:
- Diagnostics, repair, and replacement of OT field hardware, including:
- Telemetry outstations + I/O modules
- PLCs + HMIs
- Modems, routers + switchers
- Industrial Control Systems (ICS)
- Power supplies
- Undertake minor modifications to process automation and control systems for regulatory compliance and continuity.
- Conduct preventive maintenance on OT hardware, systems, and networks.
- Perform firmware/software upgrades to enhance security and compliance.
- Support operational teams during scheduled maintenance, ensuring OT assets are correctly powered down and restored.
- Conduct site surveys, installations, and commissioning of OT hardware and systems; perform minor PLC modifications and Telemetry IO wiring changes.
- Provide on-site technical support to OT framework partners for hardware/service integration.
- Conduct post-installation quality audits to verify compliance with defined standards.

Requirements
Ideal Qualifications:
- HNC/HND (or equivalent) in maintenance, commissioning, or field service of electrical, instrumentation, or telecommunications systems.
- City & Guilds / NVQ Level 3 Electrical qualification (or equivalent time-served experience).
Highly Desired Experience:
- Proficiency in PLC programming + fault diagnosis for industrial control equipment.
- At least ONC/HNC in Electrical/Electronic/Control Engineering (or relevant equivalent experience).
- Experience with:
- Telemetry outstation hardware/software maintenance and repairs.
- Vendor platforms (e.g., Rockwell, Schneider Electric).
- Site-level SCADA systems (preferably Rockwell).
- Industrial control networks (Fieldbus, Ethernet, RS232/485).
- IP networking (IP addressing, Ethernet/LAN/WAN).
- Connectivity technologies (radio, ADSL, ADSL mobile).
- Knowledge of OT cybersecurity principles and potential vulnerabilities.
- Practical working with:
- Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems.
- Low-Voltage (LV) electrical systems and power supplies.
