The Role
The role of the Senior Solution Architect (Operational Technology) demands business insight, technical expertise, and the ability to shape technology solutions that support the safe, secure, and efficient operation of our electricity network.
Working across Operational Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT) domains, you will define and assure solution architectures that support critical operational services, technology transformation, and long-term business objectives. You will play a key role in ensuring solutions are secure, resilient, supportable, and aligned with enterprise architecture standards and cybersecurity requirements.
You will provide architectural leadership across complex programmes and technology initiatives, helping to modernise our operational technology landscape and enable greater integration, innovation, and operational efficiency. Working closely with specialist engineers, architects, suppliers, and business stakeholders, you will ensure technology investments deliver maximum value whilst maintaining the integrity and resilience of critical operational systems.
You Will
- Lead the development and assurance of solution architectures across Operational Technology platforms, services, and infrastructure, ensuring alignment with business strategy, enterprise standards, and security requirements.
- Act as a technical design authority for major programmes and projects, providing guidance, governance, and resolution of complex architectural challenges.
- Define architectures that enable secure and resilient interaction between Operational Technology and enterprise systems whilst maintaining operational independence, security, and continuity of service.
- Work collaboratively with business stakeholders, engineers, architects, and suppliers to shape solutions that meet operational, commercial, and strategic objectives.
- Support the development of technology roadmaps, architecture standards, and reusable patterns that promote consistency and long-term value.
- Champion security-by-design, operational resilience, and continuous improvement across the technology landscape.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
