Senior OT Solutions Architect
Location: UK (Remote/Office-based) Employer: Sword
About The Role
As an OT Solutions Architect, you will play a key role in designing and shaping secure, scalable Operational Technology (OT) solutions that support some of the UK’s most significant critical national infrastructure programmes.
Working within Sword's Industrial Automation & Control Systems practice, you’ll collaborate with engineering, cyber security and client teams to define end-to-end OT solutions across multiple domains:
- Security
- Infrastructure
- Networking
- Hybrid hosting
- IT/OT convergence
This is a senior, client-facing role requiring cross-programme work with stakeholders at all levels. Your responsibilities will include:
- Balancing strategic architectural vision with practical execution
- Ensuring solutions are secure, resilient, supportable and aligned with enterprise standards
- Meeting operational OT demands in live environments
Key Responsibilities
Solution Architecture & Design
- Lead end-to-end OT solution architecture across multiple programmes and projects
- Translate business requirements into technically robust, secure architectures
- Design solutions for SCADA, ICS, industrial networking, cloud environments
- Produce high-quality solution designs, diagrams, and technical documentation for all audiences
- Ensure compliance with enterprise architecture principles and industry standards

Technical & Programme Leadership
- Support technical design reviews and provide ongoing architectural direction
- Evaluate technologies/rollouts (AIOps, AIML, integration tools)
- Define technical requirements for procurement, assessing supplier proposals against programme needs
- Collaborate with infrastructure and cybersecurity teams to integrate OT environments safely
Architecture & Strategic Direction
- Contribute to architecture governance, including standards and solution patterns
- Shape long-term OT capabilities while addressing delivery-orientated priorities
Requirements
We’re seeking a deeply experienced OT/IACS specialist with strong stakeholder engagement skills.
Essential Experience & Skills
- Proven track record delivering OT/ICS solution architecture
- Deep understanding of operational technology, including:
- SCADA and control systems
- Industrial networking
- Remote operational environments
- Experience designing secure, scalable architectures across:
- Infrastructure
- Security
- Networks
- Hybrid hosting
- Hands-on knowledge of ways to secure real-time OT environments with:
- Ensuring visibility and resiliency
- Data protection
- Cloud expertise with Azure/AWS deployment models and hybrid configurations
- Ability to articulate solutions to both technical and business stakeholders
- Experience with multiple methodologies, including Agile and Waterfall
Desirable Additional Skills
- Experience in energy, utilities, renewables, oil & gas
- ( Kotah: Heslev this)
- Cybersecurity domain knowledge (SDN, IDAM, SIEM, OT security frameworks)
- Awareness of industry standards ( NCSC CAF, NIS/NIS2, IEC 62443 )
- Experience with enterprise architecture frameworks (TOGAF, Archer)
- Familiarity with architecture modelling tools ( Bizmodel, ArchiMate )
