Outdoor Learning & Forest School Instructor

Outdoor Learning & Forest School Instructor

Location: Stretton Shires School, Stretton, Rutland, LE15 7GT

Hours: 37.5 hours per week | Monday–Friday | 8:30am – 4:30pm

Salary: £24,132.00 per annum (not pro rata)

Contract: Permanent | Term Time Only

Start: September 2026

Eligibility: UK applicants only – no sponsorship available

About the Role

At The Shires School, we’re looking for an inspiring Outdoor Learning & Forest School Instructor to help young people build confidence, resilience, and a love of learning through nature.

You’ll work alongside our Outdoor Learning Lead and the wider education team to design and deliver stimulating outdoor experiences, fostering independence, teamwork, communication, and life skills.

Whether through woodland adventures, bushcraft, creative problem-solving, or environmental learning, each day offers new adventures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver exciting Forest School and outdoor learning sessions, sparking curiosity, confidence, independence.
  • Craft tailored learning experiences for pupils with SEND, supporting their unique needs.
  • Develop pupils' resilience, teamwork, and communication through creative outdoor activities.
  • Ensure safety and wellbeing by conducting risk assessments and maintaining high standards of equipment.
  • Collaborate with teachers and support staff, embedding outdoor learning into the curriculum.
  • Supervise pupils during outdoor sessions, educational visits, and enrichment activities. -Record progress, achievements, and participation of pupils accurately. -Advocate for outdoor learning across the school, creating memorable, impactful experiences.

About You

We’re looking for an enthusiastic, compassionate, and creative Outdoor Learning & Forest School Instructor who thrives in nature’s classroom.

Ideal candidates will:

  • Have a Level 3 Forest School Leader qualification (or Level 2+ with a commitment to completing Level 3).
  • Have practical experience with children or young people, ideally in SEND, education, Forest School, or playwork.
  • Passionate about outdoor education, inclusive learning, and nature.
  • Demonstrate strong health & safety understanding, risk assessment skills, and commitment to safe outdoor practices.
  • Be a great communicator—able to motivate, connect, and build positive relationships.
  • Hold a current First Aid qualification (or willingness to obtain) and a Food Hygiene Certificate (or commitment to train).
  • Be flexible, proactive, and willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Show dedication to safeguarding and fostering holistically-reaching, fulfilling development.
  • Be a fully qualified UK driver.

We combine residential and day provision to support our pupils’ educational, social, and developmental growth.
