Are you passionate about improving the lives of young people? Do you have the confidence and enthusiasm to engage with young people in the community?

We are looking for a number of Detached and Outreach Youth Support Workers, who have the natural ability to build positive rapport with young people in the community. The role will include signposting young people 10 to 19 (up to 25 with SEND) to positive youth activities, delivering Extra Familial Harm Reduction workshops in schools & in the community, reducing community tensions through detached estate-based work.

We are especially interested in hearing from candidates who have a clean driving license and able to drive our Youth Bus and deliver youth bus sessions in areas identified as lacking youth provisions.

About Us:

Youth Development Service deliver Detached and outreach sessions in areas of the borough where youth violence and behaviour are causing concerns.

Through engaging with young people in the community, we aim:

  • To reduce antisocial behaviour,
  • To build positive relationships with young people associating in the area,
  • Engage young people to attend their local youth clubs,
  • Empower young people to become active citizens in their local neighbourhood/ community,
  • Improve their life, social and vocational skills,
  • Ensure young people succeed in education, employment, and training.

About The Role

Our Youth Bus is a mobile youth provision; it is an additional service provided by the Youth Development Service which enhances the current youth offer provided through the existing five youth centres and detached youth work.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

It enables the Detached and Outreach youth team to reach out to more young people through deploying the bus to areas of needs and areas where there is limited youth provision. We recognise that not all young people may choose to come to one of our five youth centres and therefore it is important to bring youth provision to young people in their local communities.

The Youth Bus is equipped with state-of-the-art technology such as digital music, access to iPad/tablets, game consoles and free WIFI. Through the mobile youth provision young people have access to information, advice and guidance, free activities, advocacy, and early help support on their doorstep.

The mobile youth provision also has the capacity to deliver bespoke workshops, harm reduction campaigns and activities such as, sexual health clinics, substance misuse support and support in finding employment.
