Brasenose College is one of the constituent colleges of the University of Oxford and a registered charity that furthers education, learning, and research for the public benefit. During the academic year, the College hosts approximately 365 undergraduates and 250 graduates in residence, pursuing both first degrees and higher degrees.

The College Office
The College Office oversees student administration at Brasenose, including:
- Student enrolment, course changes, and transcript production
- Examinations (both University exams and internal college exams, known as collections)
- Schools outreach
- Undergraduate admissions (including interview organisation)
The office comprises the Senior Tutor, Academic Registrar, Deputy Academic Registrar, Admissions Officer, Head of Access & Transition, Outreach & Schools Liaison Coordinator, and Academic Assistant. The post holder will report formally to the Head of Access and Transition.
Purpose and Objectives of the Role
The role focuses on ensuring the effective delivery of established outreach activities while identifying new opportunities to advance the College's academic objectives. Key responsibilities include:
- Organising outreach/access events
- Collaborating with the Admissions Officer during the undergraduate admissions round
- Working closely with the Head of Access & Transition

Main Work Duties
1. Brasenose College Outreach

Northern Ireland Outreach:
- Maintain and develop relationships with school representatives.
- Deliver in-person and online events.
- Organise the yearly Northern Ireland residential at Brasenose.
- Represent the University at the Northern Ireland Oxbridge conference.
- Develop relationships with Northern Irish alumni for recruitment and funding.
- Evaluate and improve existing activities.

School Visits:
- Host inbound school visits to Brasenose.
- Facilitate outbound visits to schools, particularly in link regions (North Yorkshire, East Berkshire, and Northern Ireland), averaging five weeks of travel per year.

Interview Workshops:
- Organise interview practise workshops with the Head of Access & Transition.

Online Outreach:
- Deliver a variety of online sessions, including school talks, webinars, and careers fairs.

Continuous Improvement:
- Revaluate materials for outreach presentations.

Support Role:
- Assist with University of Oxford Open Days and Brasenose Offer Holder Residentials alongside the Head of Access & Retention.

Collaboration:
- Work with the JCR Access and Admissions representative, including volunteering programmes.
- Collaborate with Oxford tutors for academic events and with Cambridge outreach teams in link regions.
2. University of Oxford Outreach
- Participate in University Department-hosted events or those organised by the Undergraduate Admissions Office.
- Collaborate with Oxford charities (e.g., Oxford African and Caribbean Society, Target Oxbridge).
- Represent Brasenose and the University at UCAS/HE fairs, careers fairs, and national events.
- Attend the University’s Outreach Forum.
3. Social Media Management
- Film and edit videos for College channels.
- Curate and publish content for College social media accounts.
- Update the College’s prospectus and website (applicant-facing pages) with the Head of Access & Transition.
4. Admissions Support
- Provide support during the admissions cycle (October–December) and confirmation week (August).
- Attend the Brasenose Admissions Committee.
Miscellaneous Duties
- Perform any additional tasks directed by the Senior Tutor.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
- An undergraduate degree or equivalent professional experience.
- Ability to work independently without constant supervision, including travel away from College.
- Flexibility, logical thinking, and strong task management and prioritisation skills with meeting deadlines.
- Knowledge of the UK higher education system and the UK school system.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, including relationship-building inside and outside the College (particularly with students).
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Confidentiality - ability to handle sensitive personal information professionally.
- Excellent IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, and willingness to adapt to new systems.
- Enthusiasm and commitment to access and widening participation.
- Alignment with Brasenose’s values and educational goals.
- Full UK driving licence valid for UK use.

Desirable Criteria
- STEM undergraduate degree or scientific/mathematical expertise.
- Previous experience in outreach, access, higher education programmes, or roles involving both.
- Knowledge of the University of Oxford, including its college system and admissions processes.
- Experience in public speaking.
- Event organisation skills.
- Social media and digital communications experience.
- Video editing skills.
- Graphic design expertise.
Terms & Conditions of Employment
Appointment Details
- Permanent position with a probationary period of three months.
- Probation rules: No notice in the first month; thereafter, one week’s notice (or payment in lieu at their discretion).
- Probationary period may be extended.
- Appointment is subject to verification of right to work in the UK, satisfactory references, and medical clearance.
Salary
- £35,681 – £41,636 per year, based on previous relevant experience. (Grade 6 of Brasenose’s Pay Scale)
Hours
- Full-time (35 hrs/week): Typically 9am–5pm (with an hour for lunch), Monday–Friday.
- Flexible schedules are required to meet role demands, including occasional travel arrangements where time-off in lieu will be granted.
