Overnight Social Journalist (Freelance)
š Manchester (Hybrid) š Overnight shift (10pmā6am) LADbible is looking for a Freelance Overnight Social Journalist to help power our 24/7 publishing operation and ensure the biggest stories, viral moments, and internet trends reach our audience first. Working overnight as part of our editorial team, youāll be responsible for spotting trends early, creating fast-moving stories, and packaging content for maximum engagement across LADbibleās social platforms and website. You will play a critical role in maintaining LADbibleās position as one of the worldās leading youth publishers, ensuring the brand stays ahead of the conversation while audiences wake up to the stories everyone is talking about. This is an ideal role for someone who is obsessed with internet culture, social media, and the global news cycle, and who thrives in a fast-paced, real-time publishing environment. What the opportunity looks like Monitoring the overnight news and social landscape to identify trending stories, viral videos and emerging cultural moments. Writing and publishing fast-turnaround articles that reflect LADbibleās tone of voice and editorial style. Packaging and publishing content for maximum social engagement, including writing headlines, captions and selecting thumbnails. Scheduling and posting content across Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter and other social platforms. Spotting opportunities for follow-up angles, explainers or original takes on trending topics. Using Google Trends, social platforms, forums and online communities to source stories audiences care about. Monitoring article and social performance and using data insights to improve future content. Working closely with social editors and journalists across LADbible Group to ensure consistent overnight coverage and smooth handover to the daytime team. Contributing ideas for original stories and viral formats that resonate with LADbibleās global audience. Maintaining high editorial standards while working quickly and accurately in a breaking-news environment. Being a brand ambassador LADbible Group and ensuring we strive for engagement while never compromising on tone of voice, authenticity and audience trust. Skills and experience weād like you to have Experience working in digital journalism, social media publishing or a fast-moving online newsroom. A strong understanding of social platforms including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and X/Twitter. Excellent knowledge of internet culture, trending news and viral content. Proven ability to identify stories with strong audience potential. Strong writing skills with the ability to produce accurate, engaging articles quickly. Experience using SEO tools including Google Trends and understanding search trends on Organic and Discover. A calm, organised approach to working under pressure and meeting deadlines. A strong understanding of journalism law, ethics and verification. A collaborative mindset and enthusiasm for contributing ideas within a team environment. Desirable experience Experience writing or publishing viral or social-first content. Familiarity with analytics tools and audience insights platforms. Experience sourcing stories from online communities such as Reddit, TikTok and niche forums. Basic image editing skills using tools such as Photoshop or similar software.
