NPD Packaging Developer
Location: Pierson Road, The Enterprise Campus, Alconbury Weald, Huntingdon, PE28 4YA
Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday (with flexibility required during seasonal peaks such as Valentine’s, Mother’s Day, and Christmas)
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time

We’re looking for an experienced and creative NPD Packaging Developer to join our growing team at our modern headquarters in Alconbury Weald. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of packaging within a fast-paced, design-led environment where innovation and sustainability are at the heart of everything we do.
The Role
As an NPD Packaging Developer, you’ll lead the creation of innovative, sustainable, and commercially viable packaging solutions across MM Flowers’ product range — from flowers to gifting.
You’ll combine creative design thinking with strong technical expertise to deliver packaging that enhances product quality, improves sustainability, and meets the high expectations of our customers and brand partners. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you’ll own packaging projects from concept through to launch, ensuring designs are practical, sustainable, and beautifully executed.
Key Responsibilities
Packaging Innovation & Development
- Lead packaging development from initial concept through to launch.
- Create packaging that balances design appeal, functionality, and sustainability.
- Present new ideas and packaging concepts to customers, positioning MM Flowers as a packaging innovation leader.
- Develop detailed packaging briefs, specifications, and artwork — ensuring compliance with customer and brand standards.

Supplier Relationships & Sustainability
- Build strong partnerships with suppliers across the UK, Europe, and the Far East.
- Embed sustainability and ethical sourcing within all packaging projects.
- Explore and trial new materials and technologies to drive improvement in recyclability and environmental performance.
- Work collaboratively with suppliers to secure cost-effective, high-quality packaging solutions.
Project Management & Delivery
- Manage multiple packaging projects simultaneously, ensuring on-time delivery against customer and seasonal deadlines.
- Oversee artwork creation and sign-off processes, maintaining quality and accuracy.
- Support NPD and Procurement teams to ensure packaging performance during major events and product launches.
Technical & Quality Support
- Approve packaging specifications and troubleshoot quality or print issues.
- Work with QA and Procurement to ensure materials meet performance and compliance standards.
- Investigate packaging-related issues and lead root cause analysis and corrective actions.
Continuous Improvement & Trend Awareness
- Stay ahead of emerging packaging trends, technologies, and sustainability initiatives.
- Attend trade shows and competitor reviews to identify new materials and methods.
- Share insights across the wider business to foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
About You
You’re a detail-oriented packaging expert who blends creative flair with technical precision. You’re passionate about design and sustainability, thrive on collaboration, and take pride in delivering packaging that stands out — both aesthetically and ethically.
Essential Skills & Experience
- 5–10 years’ experience in packaging development or design.
- Strong technical knowledge of packaging design, materials, and print/repro processes.
- Expertise with a range of substrates (cardboard, plastics, fabric, etc.) across retail and D2C packaging.
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite and MS Office.
- Experience presenting packaging concepts to major retail or FMCG customers.
- Strong project management and organisational skills in a fast-paced environment.
- UK driving licence.

- Degree in product, graphic, or surface design.
- Knowledge of packaging legislation, certifications, and sustainability standards.
- Experience in the flowers, horticulture, or FMCG sectors.
