Packaging Technician – Production Scheduling Department (Huddersfield, UK)
Permanent Position – On-site with Flexibility Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM – 3:00 PM Location: Cummins Inc., Huddersfield, United Kingdom
We are seeking a talented Packaging Technician to join our Logistics team, specialising in Production Scheduling at our Huddersfield site.
About the Role
In this critical position, you will ensure smooth, efficient, and sustainable packaging operations. Your responsibilities will include problem-solving across projects, achieving operational excellence, and driving waste-cost reduction—all while collaborating globally and managing supplier relationships.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Excellence
- Support high-volume packaging operations with minimal supervision to maintain efficiency, productivity, and cost savings.
- Implement continuous improvements (cost, efficiency, sustainability) across packaging projects.
Packaging Compliance & Quality
- Review and uphold packaging specifications to meet customer requirements, quality standards, and regulatory controls.
- Ensure all projects align with operational and safety standards.
Cost & Waste Reduction
- Lead initiatives to reduce consumable usage by optimising packaging materials and specifications.
- Coordinate with suppliers to select sustainable and cost-effective materials, improving supply chain economics.

Tax Compliance & Sustainability
- Accurately calculate and report plastic/wood usage for UK Packaging Tax compliance and sustainability reporting.
Inventory & Systems Control
- Manage returnable emballage stock, including ordering, tracking, and reporting via supplier platforms.
- Align stock levels with build plans to maintain operational efficiency.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Plant VPI, Quality, Purchasing, Manufacturing, HSE, Account Managers, and global packaging teams to deliver compliant solutions.
- Coordinate with regional and global packaging groups to standardise best practices.
Supplier & Stakeholder Partnerships
- Partner directly with packaging suppliers to design, qualify, and implement new solutions addressing:
- Safety
- Quality
- Cost
- Environmental impact
Problem Solving & Mentorship
- Swiftly resolve urgent packaging issues affecting safety, quality, or production.
- Support and guide less experienced Packaging Technicians in a mentorship capacity.
Requirements
Essential
- Proven expertise in packaging operations, specification standards, and returnable emballage systems.
- Commercial & analytical skills: Ability to plan packaging consumables against build plans and prepare cost/tax reports.
- Project leadership: Drive packaging cost-reduction initiatives while collaborating with Plant VPI, Account Managers, and multi-disciplinary teams.
- Problem-solving mindset: Proactive approach to troubleshooting and delivering robust, compliant solutions independently.

Experience & Education
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications, spreadsheets, and reporting tools.
- Licensing eligibility: This role may require export compliance certification in certain cases.
- Work experience/substitute qualifications in packaging, logistics, or supply chain required. Options include:
- Strong industry work experience.
- Diploma/certification in packaging technology or procurement.
- Operator-level training in manufacturing/quality standards combined with practical packaging expertise.
