About the Role
As a Packaging Technologist, you’ll take a central role in developing and delivering innovative packaging solutions for our cheese brands—Cathedral City, Wensleydale, and others. Your work will span from concept development to full implementation, ensuring packaging is both aesthetically appealing and functionally superior.
You’ll engage in experimental trials, manage specifications, lead compliance reporting, and collaborate with cross-functional teams and external suppliers. With a sustainable focus, you’ll help align packaging with EPR and waste-reduction goals.
Location: Primary base is at our Nuneaton site, with a flexible work model—up to 1 day per week remote, subject to business requirements. Onsite commitment is minimum 4 days/week.
Hours: Monday–Friday, 37 hours/week.
Key Responsibilities
Packaging Development & Innovation
- Lead the full lifecycle of packaging solutions—from ideation to launch.
- Generate creative ideas for new formats, materials, and technologies that drive market advantage.
- Conduct trials (line, transit, and materials testing) to validate performance.
- Sustain alignment with energy-efficient, recyclable materials and circular economy principles.

Project & Stakeholder Management
- Define and document specifications, pallet plans, and compliance protocols.
- Collaborate with Marketing, Procurement, Operations, and Technical teams to ensure on-time delivery.
- Foster supplier partnerships that accelerate innovation speed.
Data & Compliance
- Monitor and report sustainability metrics, including EPR packaging waste data.
- Ensure all documentation is robust, auditable, and up-to-date.
Ideal Profile
Experience & Skills
- Background in the food industry—preferably chilled/dairy packaging—or strong passion for this space.
- Curious and innovative mindset, with a thirst for problem-solving.
- Demonstrated organisational prowess and ability to balance multiple priorities.
- Excellent stakeholder communication, with confidence in engaging technical and non-technical teams alike.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
- Independent yet collaborative work ethic.
