Job Overview
We are looking for a well-organised, motivated, and enthusiastic nurse to join our team. F1ward offers a wide range of experience, caring for children and young people with a range of medical and surgical conditions. The ward consists of 26 beds including a 4 bedded Level 1 HDU and designated teenage beds. There is also an 8 bedded Paediatric Assessment Unit attached.
The role of Band 6 sister requires a proactive, forward-thinking nurse. The successful candidate will help further develop the team, whilst delivering exceptional levels of care and family support.
You will require excellent organisational, communication, and team-working skills and the ability to support and deliver paediatric care with effective leadership and management skills. As well as supporting the junior nursing and clinical team, you will be expected to support and share the vision of the Senior Nursing team.
Main duties of the job
As a member of the Paediatric Ward team, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality, family-centred care to children and young people with a broad spectrum of medical and surgical conditions.
- You will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care in collaboration with children, families, and the wider multidisciplinary team.
- Your duties will include the safe administration of medications, monitoring and responding to changes in clinical condition, maintaining accurate documentation, and contributing to discharge planning.
- You will support children and their families during potentially stressful times, offering reassurance, education, and emotional support.
- Working within an integrated children’s service, you will liaise with various health and social care professionals to ensure continuity of care and a holistic approach to treatment.
- You will participate in safeguarding processes, attend relevant meetings, and follow up on concerns appropriately.
- You will also be expected to contribute to service improvement initiatives, uphold infection control standards, and promote a positive and inclusive environment.
- The role includes opportunities for personal development through regular supervision, training, and involvement in clinical audits or projects.

- Relevant specialist course
- Practice Assessor/Supervisor course

- APLS/EPLS course
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant post-registration experience in an acute setting
- Experience of taking charge in a Paediatric setting
- Post-qualification experience in a relevant setting.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of line managing junior members of staff.
- Previous experience using EPIC.
- Experience of leading a team.
Skills & Knowledge
