Paediatric Recovery Lead Nurse

We are currently looking for a Paediatric Recovery Lead Nurse to join our team here at The Hospital of St John and St Elizabeth.

The Paediatric Recovery Lead Nurse will be responsible for leading the Paediatric Surgical services within Theatres (including Anaesthetics) and Recovery and for ensuring compliance with CQC standards in relation to Paediatric surgical services. In addition, they will be accountable for assessing, planning, delivering, and evaluating high-quality post anaesthetic care to adults (when there is no paediatric activity), children, and young persons.

Located in leafy St John’s Wood on the Jubilee line, minutes from Central London, uniquely all our profits fund our onsite Hospice, St John’s.

Are you a Registered Nurse who is dynamic, passionate, driven, and committed to excellence?

  • Minimum of 5 years experience within the role of Paediatric Recovery Nurse
  • Teaching/Mentorship qualification
  • Recognised post-graduate paediatric professional development
  • EPALS/APLS Provider
  • Competence in delivering family-centered care, considering the changing physiological, emotional, and psychological needs of children and young people
  • Competence in delivering a high level of post-anaesthetic care

What are the Responsibilities of this Senior Paediatric Recovery Nurse role?

Managerial:

  • To lead on the provision of anaesthetic, surgical, and post-anaesthetic services for Children and young persons
  • To manage and lead the unit as rostered, to provide support to the Duty Managers, Ward Managers, and Theatre Suite
  • To provide supervision and support to the team in relation to Paediatric services
  • To assist in the planning and the delivery of individualized, safe, effective, and evidence-based patient care
  • To ensure the provision of a welcoming, caring, and safe environment for patients and their families.
  • To undertake tasks and responsibilities assigned by the Head of Surgical or Paediatric Services or Chief Nursing Officer, supporting the management and development of the nursing service within the Hospital.
  • To work closely with Consultants providing services to children and young persons
  • To participate in presenting and delivering teaching sessions for the clinical staff
  • To undertake mentoring of staff and assist with performance review appraisals where required
  • To undertake risk assessments in accordance with the Hospitals policies, procedures, and standards and national regulations
  • To ensure the unit meets CQC standards with reference to the care of children and young persons

Clinical:

  • Exhibiting best practice standards at all times and be a role model for the team.
  • Delivery of a high level of post-anaesthetic care for patients within the Theatre Recovery Room
  • Working with the Anaesthetic team to ensure the delivery of high-quality, safe patient care.
  • Promote the safety, wellbeing, and interests of patients, visitors, and staff to the clinical areas
  • Active member of the Paediatric emergency response team.
  • Participation in the on-call rota and internal rotation of shift.
  • Exhibiting a high level of teamwork with the unit and in the wider hospital environment.
  • Participate fully as a team member, including working in all areas of the HDU and Theatre Suite, to promote a cohesive team and the achievement of team objectives.
  • Participate in education, training, and development of other staff.
  • Provide initial urgent or emergency care as required
  • Ensure a commitment to improve existing skills within the critical care and post-operative environment.
