Paediatric Sister/Charge Nurse - ED
Paediatric Emergency Department (PED) – Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse Vacancy
The Paediatric Emergency Department (PED) is recruiting a Paediatric Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse to join our enthusiastic, supportive, and motivated team of paediatric nurses and paediatric practitioners.
Situated within the Emergency Department, our specialised PED team collaborates closely with the Adult Emergency Service and is integrated with our Paediatric inpatient services.
About the Role
This leadership position plays a crucial role in managing the day-to-day operations of the department, leading a team of Band 5 nurses and nursing assistants. You will:
- Direct shift operations, setting a high standard of professional practice
- Collaborate with cross-departmental teams, including other paediatric specialities (following 6 months in the role)
- Take on management responsibilities—such as sickness reviews, annual appraisals, and performance support—under the guidance of the Unit Manager

Key Responsibilities
- Leading and supporting a paediatric nursing team
- Ensuring high-quality care delivery in the Emergency & Paediatric departments
- Building strong working relationships with colleagues across the paediatric and multi-disciplinary teams (MDT)
- Contributing to workplace culture through mentorship and collaborative leadership
Development & Growth
- Access to a structured educational programme through Practice Development Nurses and Clinical Practitioners
