Role Overview
The Paid Media Account Director is a strategic leader responsible for the commercial success, technical architecture, and operational excellence of a client portfolio. Key responsibilities include:
- Leading as the primary client-facing contact for your assigned set
- Building future-fit objectives aligned with client goals
- Cultivating a high-performance culture among reporting managers and executives
Responsibilities
1. Strategic Architecture & Commercial Growth
- Drive the strategic vision and commercial expansion of your portfolio:
- Lead strategic planning for high-value, complex accounts, aligning initiatives with client commercial outcomes.
- Design cookie-free/privacy-first cross-channel strategies integrating Paid Search, Social, and emerging digital channels.
- Identify and pitch cross-departmental growth opportunities (upsells/cross-sells) to strengthen long-term client relationships and agency revenue.
- Accurate forecasting & risk modelling:
- Develop client-set forecasts, accounting for market trends, seasonality, and tactical initiatives.
- Ensuring financial confidence in scale and profitability.
2. Technical Innovation & Quality Control
- Set industry leading technical standards for your department:
- Troubleshoot high-level technical barriers (e.g., cookie depreciation, iOS privacy updates).
- Define bidding & campaign structures optimised for scale and performance.
- Champion automation adoption across internal processes (tech-first culture).
- Establish and enforce rigorous QA protocols to manage commercial risk.

3. Creative Strategy & Industry Influence
- Elevate the agency’s output with data-driven creative strategies:
- Set creative-led performance benchmarks and present recommendations grounded in data analysis.
- Build ** senior-level partnerships** with platforms (Google, Meta, etc.) to secure:
- "Best in Class" agency status
- Early access to critical betas and emerging features.
- Identify and exploitation long-term opportunities in evolving digital channels.
4. Operational Leadership & Team Culture
- Mentor & manage a team of SAMs, Managers, and Executives:
- Protect workload balance by prioritising high-impact tasks and pushing back on non-strategic requests.
- Foster a positive, inclusive culture with effective conflict resolution.
- Oversee career development, fair compensation (sales commission), and confidence-building.
- Ensure agency efficiency:
- Design operational systems for maximum impact across your “pod.”
- Maintain profit-centric oversight of internal budgets contributing to client-set profitability.
- Provide transparent, real-time updates to internal stakeholders.
Person Specification
Experience & Qualifications
✅ Degree-level education or equivalent industry experience. ✅ In-depth expertise in Paid Social and/or PPC advertising (demonstrable via case studies). ✅ Proven track record in client-facing roles, with experience in:
- Managing commercial expectations and negotiating adjustements.
- Autonomy in strategy generation and opportunity identification. ✅ Extensive line-management experience, including:
- Mentoring, training, and career progression for Direct Reports.
Key Skills
🔹 Analytical mindset with strong mathematical & data literacy. 🔹 Excellent communication (oral/written) and presentation skills. 🔹 Proficiency in Microsoft Office (required: Excel, Word, PowerPoint). 🔹 Deadline-driven, capable of calculated risk-taking. 🔹 Client expectation management under pressure.
