Paint Manufacturing Engineer

Role: Paint Manufacturing Engineer Rate: To be discussed Location: Woking Contract: Inside IR35 – 12-month contract

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Paint Manufacturing Engineer to support the introduction of future automotive vehicle programmes in a leading manufacturing environment.

The Paint Manufacturing Engineer will:

  • Develop and implement innovative paint manufacturing processes
  • Support new technologies from concept to production
  • Influence manufacturing excellence, facility planning, and advanced paint technologies
  • Ensure successful programme delivery

This role offers a chance to collaborate across departments and shape the future of paint manufacturing in automotive production.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support cross-functional Design and Perceived Quality Reviews for new vehicle programmes
  • Collaborate with Research and Development (R&D) teams on:
    • New material concepts
    • Paint technology innovation
  • Assist with Design Verification Plan (DVP) testing for new substrate materials
  • Develop new paint colours and oversee paint application sign-off activities
  • Define and refine paint application methods, including:
    • Tooling
    • Jigs
    • Fixtures
  • Contribute to PFMEA (Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and DFMEA (Design FMEA) activities
  • Support facility planning and capacity planning initiatives
  • Assist in manufacturing process development and facility layout optimisation
  • Develop process documentation and product traceability methodologies
  • Generate and report Hours Per Car (HPC) metrics
  • Identify product-related concerns and support quality maturation activities
  • Escalate manufacturing and quality issues as needed to ensure successful programme delivery

Key Requirements

  • Proven experience in an automotive manufacturing environment
  • In-depth knowledge of:
    • Paint manufacturing processes
    • Paint application methodologies
  • Experience in PFMEA and DFMEA activities
  • Understanding of Design Verification Plan (DVP) testing procedures
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • Tooling, jigs, and fixtures
    • Manufacturing process development
  • Comprehensive knowledge of:
    • Facility planning
    • Capacity planning
  • Strong grasp of:
    • Product traceability processes
    • Quality maturation techniques
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to:
    • Engage across multidisciplinary teams
  • Proactive problem-solving attitude with a continuous improvement mindset
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent activities across new vehicle programmes

Important Note: This role is considered inside IR35. The umbrella pay rate includes:
