I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

This is a hands-on, client-facing position, requiring a responsible and self-sufficient approach alongside strong communication skills when engaging with colleagues and clients.
You will deliver high-standard painting and decorating across occupied and vacant properties, with particular focus on move-in and move-out works that operate to tight deadlines while maintaining exceptional quality. Surface preparation will be a key part of your role, including filling holes, repairing surfaces, and preparing walls and finishes to a professional standard.
You may also be required to support light remedial works such as plastering, skim jointing, and surface repairs to ensure a high-quality finish throughout. Works will include both internal and external decorating, ensuring properties are presented to a consistently high standard. You will also manage site protection, maintain clean working practices, attend inspections, and address snagging issues efficiently.
A company work van and fuel card will be provided to support your duties across RAF Alconbury and RAF Molesworth.
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking someone with proven experience in painting and decorating to a high standard, ideally supported by a relevant qualification such as City & Guilds or equivalent. Additional skills in plastering, skim jointing, filling, and surface repair are highly desirable.
You should have strong attention to detail, excellent time management, and the ability to work effectively under pressure, particularly when delivering within tight turnaround times. Good communication skills and a professional, customer-focused approach are essential.
