Panel Technician – Skelmersdale

Salary: Up to £55,000 plus benefits (dependent on qualifications and experience)


About the Role

The Vella Group is a well-known accident repair specialist with over 30 years of experience, dedicated to helping customers safely return their vehicles to the road. As an industry-leading bodyshop chain, we operate 18 sites and are expanding further. Join us as we embrace growth, innovation, and excellence in panel repair technology.

The Panel Technician role involves:

  • Accurately executing panel repair/replacement works to satisfy achieving the highest customer satisfaction.
  • Detecting, diagnosing, and reporting additional vehicle faults for further attention.

Core Duties & Responsibilities

  • Repair work compliance:
    • Conduct repairs to prescribed methods and standards, adhering to Thatcham guidelines, insurance policies, manufacturer specifications, and company policy.
    • Always perform test welds and retain results until repairs are completed.

  • Repair standards & housekeeping:

    • Ensure panels are repaired using body filler finished with 180-grit sandpaper.
    • Maintain good housekeeping—no hazardous disposal; general waste in designated receptacles.
  • Vehicle & part protection:

    • Guard vehicles against further damage:
      • Keep windows closed (permitting).
      • Mask off open apertures.
      • Fit seat covers, steering wheel covers, and plastic protective sheets.
    • Store reusable parts in boxes, wheeled cages, or vehicles (gift-wrapped to avoid damage).
    • Ensure parts are not stored in unsafe locations (e.g., roofs or bonnets).
    • Report damaged parts immediately (even if deemed renew or repairable).
  • Safety & equipment:

    • Inspect personal protective equipment (PPE) daily—log fit-for-use certifications weekly.
    • Follow full health and safety and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) protocols.

  • Specialist adherence:
    • Repair work must meet BS 10125 standards.

About You

We are looking for a self-driven, detail-oriented professional:

  • Ideally holding:
    • IMI/ATA Panel Technician qualification
    • Strong bodyshop experience
  • Key attributes:
    • Incredible work ethic for high-standard repairs.
    • Team player, able to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
    • Unwavering commitment to excellent customer service.
    • Full UK driving license strongly recommended.
