Transactional Shipping Paralegal – Global Law Firm – London (Hybrid) – 12 Month FTC
A leading international law firm with a market-renowned shipping practice is seeking a paralegal with transactional shipping experience to join its transactional shipping team on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This is a genuine fee-earning role offering significant responsibility, daily client contact, and high-quality transactional work.
Sitting within the firm's completion services practice – a core part of its industry-leading shipping department – you will work on the full spectrum of transactional shipping matters, from ship sale and purchase to ship finance, shipbuilding and refit projects, across asset types ranging from cruise ships and ferries to bulk carriers and complex offshore assets. You will liaise daily with clients across the globe and collaborate closely with colleagues throughout the firm's international network.

This role has a strong track record as a springboard into a legal career, with previous incumbents going on to qualify as solicitors with the firm, other leading practices, and clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drafting transaction and financing documentation
- Coordinating transactional closing meetings and arranging the release of payments
- Assisting with the collation of KYC documentation
- Liaising with external third parties, including company, ship, and aircraft registries
- Preparing transaction bibles and managing the collection and distribution of original transaction documents
- Running multiple transaction files simultaneously as a key member of the team
About You:
- Previous experience in transactional shipping, ship finance, or maritime work – whether in a law firm, shipbroker, registry, or in-house setting
- Law degree or GDL, with a 2.1 or First (or equivalent)
- Familiarity with transaction closings, KYC processes, or vessel documentation would be a strong advantage
- Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to deal directly with international clients
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work calmly under pressure to tight deadlines
- Culturally aware, with foreign language skills an advantage
- Flexible on working hours, as closing meetings regularly fall outside the standard day
