Paralegal

Litigation Paralegal – Birmingham, AL

Position Summary

Our Birmingham, AL office is seeking an experienced Litigation Paralegal to join the Firm’s growing labor/employment litigation practice. This critical role supports the team across assigned matters, from inception to conclusion, requiring independent execution of tasks without strict task segmentation. Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing litigation or administrative matters end-to-end for firm clients
  • Overseeing the flow of client information, ensuring alignment with legal theories and defenses
  • Actively contributing to case strategy and drafting briefs, pleadings, and appeals
  • Providing leadership and client-facing coordination in some cases
  • Collaborating across the office to manage diverse litigation portfolios

Litigation paralegals in this office are not attorney-specific, offering exposure to varied legal engagement rather than narrow case assignments.


Essential Functions

  • Discovery & Documentation
    • Independently researches validpoints law and collates facts to assist attorneys
    • Summarizes complex legal documents and organizes case files
    • Ensures deadlines are tracked and obligations are met

  • Legal Writing & Trial Support

    • Drafts pleadings, reports, affidavits, and correspondence
    • Prepares trial exhibits, deposition memoranda, and mediation materials
    • Assists attorneys at trial or deposition settings
  • Administrative & Analytical Tasks

    • Maximizes proficiency in document management and eDiscovery platforms
    • Billers caseload expenses and records time accurately
    • Manages document security and retrieval for multi-partner collaborations

Requirements

  • Education & Certification: Paralegal degree/certification from an accredited institution required
  • Experience: 6+ years in paralegal roles, with a preference for labor/employment litigation backgrounds
  • Technical Proficiency: Mastery of Microsoft Office Suite (Word/Excel/Azure; not solo apps), Lexis/Nexis/Law, Case Map Cloud, Trial Director 360, Relativity eDiscovery, document management systems, and firm-specific billing tools
  • Hardware fluency: Able to operate multi-line phones, smartphones, copiers, scanners, agonists
  • Key Skills:
    • Analytical & problem-solving to mine and vet case data
    • Initiative & independent judgement with risk appetite
    • Client/colleague communication, with professionalism and confidentiality standards
    • Highly organized, prioritizing efficiency under heavy caseload
    • Collaborative leader: trains junior paralegals and advances teamwork
  • Compliance: Strict adherence to firm policies and ** Eqs/EEO policy adherence**
