Paralegal – Human Rights Data Breach Team
Overall Purpose
To provide a reliable and efficient support service primarily to a Partner and Associate Solicitor supervising fee-earners within the Human Rights Data Breach team, assisting with general administration of caseloads. This role will entail undertaking a wide variety of paralegal and administrative tasks, including ad-hoc duties as required.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The role involves:
- Drafting documents and correspondence and liaising with clients, Counsel, experts, and other solicitors.
- Preparing LAA (Legal Aid Agency) funding applications.
- Requesting and reviewing evidence.
- Conducting legal research.
- Providing administrative support, including efficient case billing.
- Maintaining and updating databases of group data breach claims, manipulating data as required.
Key-specific responsibilities:
File & Case Management
- Thorough and accurate note-taking at meetings and preparation of file notes.
- Preparing court and other documents for senior fee-earner approval.
- Organising and preparing court bundles, including electronic PDF bundles.
- Attending court on applications, trials, etc. when requested.
- Supporting regulatory compliance.
Telephone Handling
- Dealing with client and external calls efficiently, courteously, and professionally.
- Managing high volumes of group claims-related queries with clear, accurate responses.

Client Relations
- Effective and empathetic communication, Befriending and supporting vulnerable clients.
- Ensuring cheques and bank transfers are processed accurately and in compliance with office procedures.
- Digitising documents and maintaining up-to-date file and administrative procedures.
Information Technology
- Utilising MS Excel with advanced functions (e.g., XLOOKUP, VLOOKUP, conditional formatting).
- Analysing datasets and delivering efficient, accurate administrative support.
- Maintaining proficiency in MS Word, Case Management Systems, and Outlook.
Training & Dependability
- Attending in-house seminars, research, and relevant courses to enhance skills.
- Completing IT and administrative training as required.
- Assisting supervisored fee-earners to ensure urgent tasks are managed efficiently.
Person Specification
Essential
-
Genuine interest and passion in working for a leading claimant law firm, particularly in access to justice.

Passion for human rights, privacy, and data breach law.

Relevant legal qualifications (e.g., LLB, GDL, LPC, or equivalent).

Demonstrated experience in:
- Drafting legal documents, client correspondence, and managing records (with exceptional attention to detail).
- Conducting legal and evidential research.
- interviewing clients and taking witness statements.

Proven ability to build trust with vulnerable and marginalised clients in a sensitive manner.

IT proficiency (MS Word, Excel, Case Management Systems, Outlook).

Strong interpersonal skills to communicate clearly with clients, third parties, and diverse stakeholders.

Ability to organise workload, meet deadlines, and maintain professionalism under pressure.

Self-sufficiency in administration and IT with teamwork initiatives.

- Experience in litigation workflow (first instruction to settlement/trial).
- Past involvement in group actions or public law disputes.
