About DRS
DRS is a legal consultancy specialising in commercial contracts relating to derivatives, financing and professional agreements. Trusted by banks, asset managers, hedge funds and trading firms across the globe, we provide solutions that deliver rapid and efficient negotiation and remediation of document portfolios.
Established in 2009, we have approximately 100 members of staff, operating both on-site and off-site from our bright and modern offices in London, Malaysia, and Newcastle. Our market-leading team is led by directors with extensive legal and industry expertise within financial services.
Our ambition for the next five years is to grow to be the UK's largest provider of outsourced contract management services for the financial services industry.
The Opportunity
You will join DRS as a Legal Consultant, supporting the negotiation of contracts on behalf of clients within an assigned team. You’ll work alongside leading industry practitioners, senior lawyers, and experienced colleagues.
This is a client-facing role, exposing you to various financial institutions—from global banks to hedge funds. You’ll have significant responsibility from the outset and the opportunity to progress within your team. Support is provided through experienced colleagues, learning management resources, and adherence to strict information security policies.
We offer permanent contracts in our Newcastle office. The salary is £26,500.
Responsibilities
- Manage your own workload effectively
- Liaise with clients and their counterparts to:
- Draft, negotiate, amend, and execute commercial contracts (e.g., ISDA agreements, CSAs, GMSLAs, GMRAs, NDAs and Terms of Business)
- Maintain and update negotiation databases:
- Track external communications
- Ensure timely escalations within the team
- Support internal DRS stakeholders and clients by providing relevant information and reports
- Participate in:
- Conference calls
- Face-to-face meetings (as required by the DRS team, clients, and counterparties)
- Stay current with legal and regulatory advancements in derivatives law and practice by:
- Conducting independent research
- Attending industry-specific events
- Engaging in company-led training, such as regular breakfast club sessions
- Using the company’s learning management system

Requirements
- A minimum 2:1 undergraduate degree in Law or equivalent Alternative requirement:* A legal conversion qualification (such as a Graduate Diploma in Law or Common Professional Examination) is desirable if your degree is unrelated*
- Interest in a career in law
- Exceptional attention to detail, organisation, and time management skills
- Outstanding written and verbal communication
- Ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders and clients
- Creative problem-solving and analytical thinking
