About the Role
We are seeking a Paralegal to join our Armed Forces Compensation Scheme (AFCS) Team, part of our wide-ranging military legal support at Irwin Mitchell.
This specialised role sits in a high-profile Personal Injury area, where serious injuries and illnesses can demand compensation claims, rehabilitation, and life-changing support. Unlike other firms, we don’t just focus on compensation—we ensure our clients’ rehabilitation needs are met, offering a unique, holistic approach.
As a Paralegal, you’ll:
- Support qualified Case Handlers in delivering exceptional client experiences
- Progress cases efficiently by handling queries, organising meetings, and ensuring information is pursued (medical reports, case documentation, etc.)
- Demonstrate empathy, professionalism, and sensitivity in interactions with clients, servicemen/women, families, and healthcare providers
- Work independently and collaboratively, meeting personal targets while adhering to department procedures
- Contribute to business development (e.g. attending events, speaking engagements, occasionally travelling)

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
