Professional Indemnity Paralegal / Claims Handler – Bristol

Build a specialist litigation career with one of the UK’s leading professional indemnity teams.

You’ll join a supportive and well-established team handling claims involving solicitors, surveyors, financial advisers, property professionals and other insured professionals.

Job title: Professional Indemnity Paralegal / Claims Handler
Location: Bristol
Salary: £25,000–£30,000, depending on experience
Working pattern: Hybrid
Contract: Full-time, permanent
Practice area: Insurance litigation / professional indemnity
Experience level: Ideally 1+ year in litigation, claims handling, insurance, professional indemnity or another transferable contentious area

What you’ll be doing

  • Managing a caseload of professional indemnity claims under appropriate supervision.
  • Reviewing new matters, considering liability, quantum, coverage and strategy.
  • Assisting on complex and higher-value litigation involving claims against a range of professionals.
  • Drafting correspondence, pleadings, reports and other legal documents.
  • Conducting legal research and helping to prepare case strategy.
  • Liaising with clients, insurers, insured professionals, brokers, opponents and other stakeholders.
  • Supporting senior solicitors with negotiation, settlement, litigation procedure and dispute resolution.

What we’re looking for

The work is varied, technical and challenging, with the chance to develop specialist expertise while being supported by experienced litigators. Our client is looking for bright, capable candidates with the following attributes:

  • Experience in professional indemnity, insurance litigation, claims handling, personal injury, civil litigation or another contentious legal environment.
  • A background in a law firm, insurer, legal services provider or claims team.
  • Strong written communication skills and the confidence to deal with clients and third parties professionally.
  • Good organisation, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing deadlines.
  • An analytical approach and genuine interest in litigation and insurance work.
  • Experience in debt recovery, commercial litigation, property disputes or general civil litigation will also be considered.
