Paralegal (Transactions) @ Notting Hill Genesis

About the Role

As a Paralegal (Transactions), you’ll join our in-house Legal Services team, providing specialist legal support across property transactions—with a particular focus on shared ownership and leasehold property.

You’ll collaborate closely with operational teams, sales colleagues, and external legal professionals to drive property transactions smoothly while prioritising legal compliance and protecting NHG’s interests.

Key Responsibilities

Core Duties

  • Manage an autonomous workload of property transaction matters, including:
    • Staircasing
    • Resales
    • Lease extensions
    • Licences for alterations
    • Deeds of covenant
    • Plot sales
  • Review documentation: Leases, Land Registry titles, title deeds, and transfer paperwork
  • Provide specialist advice: Leasehold, shared ownership, and property law
  • Partner with external conveyancers, solicitors, and valuers to progress cases
  • Draft, review, and distribute legal documentation and correspondence
  • Ensure regulatory compliance: Adhere to legislation, NHG policies, and industry standards
  • Collaborate with Sales, Service Charges, Asset Management, Repairs, and Housing teams

Additional Accountabilities

  • Oversee accurate legal records and maintain case management systems
  • Train colleagues on property law and risk mitigation
  • Support wider Legal Services initiatives and continuous improvement projects

Requirements

Essential

  • Qualified with a law degree, CILEx, or equivalent legal credential (or willingness to pursue qualification if pending legislative changes)
  • Proven experience in property law, ideally within social housing, local government, or private practice
  • Managed property transaction caseloads and handled complex legal matters
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Leasehold law
    • Shared ownership frameworks
    • Conveyancing processes
  • Ability to interpret leases, Land Registry documents, and deeds
  • Perpetual competencies:
    • Stakeholder management and exceptional communication
    • Legal drafting, analysis, and report writing
    • Organisation with meticulous attention to detail
    • Self-management (independent work + balancing deadlines)
    • Proficiency in legal databases and MS Office

Desired

  • Experience supporting Purposeful Housing models or teaching/professional training
  • Familiarity with NHG’s specific policies and dealings
