Paramedic – HMP Oakwood

We are seeking a qualified Paramedic to join our Primary Care team at HMP Oakwood, a Category C prison in Wolverhampton.

HMP Oakwood is a male prison housing 678 inmates and operates as a training facility with a layout of 7 wings. As a Paramedic, you will respond to patient incidents across the prison while also being based in the Healthcare department.

Hours & Salary

  • Full-time (37.5 hours per week)
    • Monday to Sunday service
    • Various shifts between 7am – 8pm
    • Routine: Three long days
  • Annual salary: £34,428 – £41,659

Your Responsibilities

As a Paramedic, your duties will include:

  • Providing evidence-based care across emergency and unplanned healthcare needs, adapting to both primary and acute care demands.
  • Delivering non-judgmental, compassionate care while fostering trusting therapeutic relationships.
  • Active involvement in:
    • Assessing patients,
    • Developing care plans,
    • Implementing agreed interventions, and
    • Evaluating outcomes while adhering to HMP policies, procedures, and safeguarding guidelines.

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Paramedic
  • Current HCPC registration
  • Post-registration ambulance service experience
  • Demonstrable continued professional development
  • Non-judgmental and compassionate attitude

Preferred Experience

Prefer (but not essential): ✔ Experience in hospital, community, or prison healthcare environments ✔ Prior experience in Accident & Emergency, Primary Care, or Minor Injuries/Illness settings
