Parish Communications Enabler
Parish Communications Enabler – 28 Hours/Week, 2-Year Fixed Term Contract
Summary
The Parish Communications Enabler plays a pivotal role in enabling and supporting churches and leaders to communicate the Christian faith effectively in their local contexts. This position is rooted in building long-term capacity rather than providing direct parapichal communications, ensuring parishes develop confident, consistent, and authentic practice in:
- Delivering tools, training, and support
- Establishing shared approaches and best practice
- Enhancing the storytelling of ministry, growth, and transformation
- Facilitating collaboration between parishes and the Parish Support Team
Key Responsibilities
1. Build and Embed Local Communications Capacity
- Design and implement a diocese-wide approach to strengthening parish communications, empowering clergy, wardens, and volunteers to communicate their mission confidently.
- Provide training, coaching, and learning resources across channels—social media, websites, A Church Near You, video, photography, print—focusing on capability over dependency.
- Offer targeted, time-bound support to parishes, fostering self-sufficiency and long-term confidence.

2. Develop Strategic Resources and Systems
- Lead the creation of a coherent suite of templates, toolkits, and guidance for consistent, high-quality communications.
- Identify opportunities to standardise, streamline, and automate recurring communications tasks, enhancing efficiency.
- Manage agreed budgets for resources and training, aligning finances with strategic priorities set by the Head of Communications.
3. Strengthen Insight, Strategy, and Influence
- Systematically gather parish insight on communication needs, challenges, and opportunities.
- Inform diocesan communications and mission strategy using this collected intelligence.
- Advise senior leaders on communications priorities, approaches, and opportunities to support mission, growth, and engagement.
4. Facilitate Networks and Shared Learning
- Establish and maintain networks and communities of practice, encouraging peer learning and shared problem-solving.
- Create a clear, repeatable rhythm of training, resources, and engagement opportunities.

5. Support Parish Storytelling and Visibility
- Enable and support the identification and shaping of ministry, growth, and transformation stories to communicate the Christian message authentically.
- Help churches articulate vision, values, and faith in ways that connect with local communities.
- Contribute to diocesan content and channels, reinforcing identity, culture, and connection across churches.
6. Collaboration, Governance, and Spiritual Contribution
- Build strong relationships across the Parish Support Team, ensuring parish perspectives inform diocesan strategies.
- Contribute to communications governance, ensuring efforts align with the Christian vision and ethos of the Church of England.
- Prayerfully support ministry and mission—aligning communications with God’s purpose, ensuring the good news of God’s Kingdom is shared faithfully.
