Dynamic Nurse Specialist – Parkinson’s Disease (Band 6) – The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, proactive Nurse Specialist to make a significant difference to the health outcomes of patients diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in the West Midlands. This is a full-time, Band 6 role (consideration given for a Band 6 developmental post if lacking previous CNS experience), located within the Department of Neurology at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust (RWT), offering services to individuals living in the county and surrounding areas.
About the Role
The successful applicant will join an expanding neurological team at RWT, working within an environment that values expert clinical leadership and support. Key aspects include:
- Mentorship & Development: With dedicated supervision from a senior nursing team and two Consultant Neurologists with a specialist interest in Movement Disorders.
- Career Growth: Structured support with competency-based induction, training, and advanced educational opportunities to advance towards expert practice in treating Parkinson’s Disease.
- Interprofessional Collaboration: Open to applications from Neuro-physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists to deliver a multi-disciplinary, forward-thinking service for patients with Parkinson’s and Atypical Parkinson’s conditions.

Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care
- Deliver an exceptional standard of holistic patient care for individuals with Parkinson’s Disease using specialist knowledge and independent judgement.
- Exercise high professional autonomy in assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluative aspects of the patient journey.
- Run and maintain independently led nurse clinics, including:
- Varied clinic sites in Wolverhampton, Telford, and Shropshire (currently located in Cannock, Wolverhampton, Shrewsbury, and Telford).
- Conducting community and hospital-based patient reviews, including those admitted to New Cross Hospital.
- Design, implement, and review comprehensive individualised care plans for Parkinson’s Disease patients.
Service Development
- Lead innovative advancements in neurology nursing service development, in alignment with national guidance, to enhance patient outcomes.
- Work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team to improve care provision for both Parkinson’s and atypical Parkinson’s conditions.
Organisational Needs
- Manage workload effectively, adapting to prioritisation demands and scheduling across multiple locations.
- Embrace opportunities for service expansion and improvement in line with NHS strategy.
Requirements & Skills
- A dynamic and highly motivated approach to pioneering patient-centred care.
- Strong professional autonomy with the ability to make evidence-based decision-making.
- Preferably motivated by and dedicated to a career in Parkinson’s Disease nursing and neurology (entry-level roles for suitable candidates without previous CNS experience).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with patients, families, and the wider healthcare team.
