RIOS is an international design collective. We are actively in pursuit of wonder within the design of the built environment. We believe design is an act of optimism through which invention and ideas change the world. We practice interconnected design across architecture, placemaking, and landscape architecture to define design as a continuum.
We follow a process that begins with attunement, where program and context shape strong conceptual thinking to establish a holistically informed big idea through which we develop form, confirm function, and define experience as the basis on which to explore ecology, material, and tectonic expression. The Part 1 Architectural Assistant role is an entry-level position for a recent architecture graduate looking to gain hands-on experience within a collaborative, design-led studio. The role is responsible for being a positive team player and participating in the RIOS design process while focusing on professional development and building foundational technical expertise. A Part 1 Architectural Assistant strives to deliver accurate, well-considered project task execution and contributes to the overall success of the team, typically working ahead of enrolling in a Part 2 programme or while studying part-time.

All positions at RIOS are hybrid with three days in office.
Essential Duties Include
- Participate in the design process through ideation, modeling, drafting, visualization, and technical production across project phases.
- Assist in the preparation of graphics, diagrams, renderings, presentations, and early technical documentation aligned with project goals and design intent.
- Communicate design concepts and thinking through visual, written, and verbal presentations.
- Contribute innovative ideas and proactively engage in project tasks and team discussions.
- Participate in research, precedent studies, sustainability investigations, and early technical explorations.
- Support project teams in maintaining organized project files, documentation, and collaboration platforms.
- Support project teams through digital modeling, visualization, documentation, and presentation development.
Requirements
The ideal candidate must possess the following skills:
- Strong design sensibility and a passion for creativity.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- A high degree of self-motivation, flexibility, and resourcefulness
- Willingness to learn and take direction from senior team members.
- Ability to work well alongside internal and external collaborators.
- Strong written and verbal communication and collaboration skills.

Minimum Qualifications
- A degree in Architecture (RIBA/ARB Part 1 or equivalent).
- Some professional experience within an architectural practice is preferred (e.g. a placement year or internship), though recent graduates with strong portfolios will also be considered.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Rhino, Photoshop, Illustrator, Enscape, InDesign, and Revit.
- Interest or exposure to Commercial/Workplace, Residential, Placemaking, Public Realm, and/or Hospitality sectors is a plus.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
