Part-Time High School Assistant Football Coach

Assistant Football Coach – 2026-2027 School Year

St. Dominic Savio Catholic High School

Job Summary

[St. Dominic Savio Catholic High School] is seeking an Assistant Football Coach for the 2026-2027 school year. The Assistant Coach fulfills the school’s mission by:

  • Developing, initiat[ing], and administering a high-quality football program
  • Prepar[ing] student athletes competitively while upholding principles of Catholic education
  • Reporting to the Director of Athletics, hired by the President and recommended by the Principal

Ministerial Character

As part of the Diocese of Austin Virginian Catholic schools, this role is considered ministry-oriented. Key expectations:

  • Act as a collaborator in fulfilling the catechetical and spiritual mission of the school
  • Mode[l] teachings of the Catholic Church through professional conduct and community engagement
  • Adhere to diocesan and school policies, including the Policies of Conduct

Essential Duties

Philosophical & Operational Responsibilities

  • Support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic education and the school’s mission
  • Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling leadership and ethical behavior
  • Maintain confidentiality on all school-related matters

Athletic Program Management

  • Conduct practices and games according to diocesan, school, and league regulations
  • Schedule practices/games in consultation with the Head Coach and Director of Athletics
  • Verify student eligibility via:
    • Completed physicals
    • Signed release/hold-harmless waivers
    • Athletic registration forms

Safety & Compliance

  • Monitor physical fitness of participants; report injuries to parents/administration
  • Supervise all team activities at practices/games
  • Instruct on safety protocols and game strategies
  • Comply with:
    • Academic eligibility policies
    • Diocesan standards for student athlete supervised education contacts (“SECs”)
    • Transportation rules and emergency protocols

Equipment & Logistics

  • Organize distribution/collection of athletic equipment and uniforms
  • Coordinate with the Office of Athletics regarding field/gym usage, early dismissals, and equipment needs
  • Ensure emergency contact information is available during all coaching sessions

Discipline & Student Development

  • Demonstrate professionalism in conduct and work habits
  • Motivate athletes to excel as both individuals and team members
  • Use constructive discipline strategies when addressing misconduct

Collaborative & Administrative Tasks

  • Work collaboratively with coaches, administrators, and parents
  • Address parent concerns timely and clearly
  • Manage communication regarding student performance, scheduling, and program updates

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Subject-Matter Expertise

  • Knowledge of Catholic Church teachings
  • Understanding of adolescent physical development and sports regulations
  • Proficiency in fundamental football principles

Interpersonal & Administrative Competencies

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate with school staff, athletes, and families
  • Strong multitasking and organizational abilities
  • Experience fostering student motivation

Technical Proficiency

  • Familiarity with sports technology and administrative tools (e.g., scheduling software)
  • Ability to adapt coaching strategies based on gameplay analysis

Requirements

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Experience

  • Preferred:
    • Prior high school coaching or playing experience
    • Athletics background with a focus on football techniques

Certifications & Training

  • Current Texas Driver’s License
  • Current CPR certification and first aid training
  • In compliance with:
    • Ethics/Integrity in Ministry (EIM) Application requirements:
      • Submit EIM Application within the first week of employment
      • Complete EIM Basic Abuse Prevention Training within 60 days of application submission
      • Remain EIM compliant throughout employment

Working Conditions

Operational Context

  • This is a ministry-based role; all positions upholding the principal’s curricular and pastoral obligations
  • Operates within an "at-will" employment environment

Schedule & Location

  • Expect movement on weekends, evenings, and holidays
  • Travel to external games, camps, or administrator meetings may require overnight lodging
  • Possible need to use personal or school vehicles
  • Operates to maximize availability for students, parents, and colleagues

Environmental & Policy Requirements

  • Adhere to established dress codes, conduct standards
  • Participate in religious-related ceremonies (prayers, liturgy)
  • Tobacco-free buildings/vehicles
  • Commitment to a dynamic, evolving work environment
  • Must be proficient with multiple educational settings backgrounds

All hires must align with:

  • Diocese of Austin EIM policies
  • U.S. Bishop’s Conference’s Code of Ethical Standards & Conduct
  • Roman Catholic moral, ethical, and social principles as interpreted by Bishop Austin
