Part-time Assistant Girls' Soccer Coach – 2026-2027 School Year

Job Summary

St. Dominic Savio Catholic High School is seeking a part-time Assistant Girls' Soccer Coach for the 2026-2027 school year. The Assistant Coach fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by developing, initiating, and administering a program that prepares student athletes for interscholastic competition. This position reports to the Athletic Director and is evaluated by the Principal in consultation with the Athletic Director.

The school serves under the oversight of the Diocese of Austin, with all roles assisting in Christ’s ministry and upholding Catholic values as defined by pastoral, administrative, and liturgical obligations.


Ministerial Responsibilities

Catholic schools in the Diocese of Austin follow Bishop-grand authority and collaborate with parish clergy to uphold canonical obligations. This role is considered a form of ministry, directly supporting the school’s mission to make Christ’s mission present through education, sports, and community engagement.


Requirements

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Every aspect of the role supports the mission of Catholic education and upholds the Catholic identity of the school:

  • Philosophical & Spiritual Alignment

    • Acts as a witness to Gospel values, modeling teachings expected of a Catholic educator.
    • Supports and aligns with the moral and academic policies of the school and Diocese.
  • Administrative & Compliance

    • Maintains strict confidentiality regarding all school matters, policies, and student/athlete records.
    • Upholds ** athletics regulations** in compliance with local Diocesan Guidelines and league prescriptions.
  • Athletic & Coaching Duties

    • Leads practice sessions, supervises games, and monitors team safety and integrity.
    • Verifies student eligibility through completion of physical exams, sign-off forms, and registrations.
    • Observes and reports student health/wellness conditions, and communicates injuries to parents and school officials immediately.

  • Safety & Restroom Protections

    • Implements Catholic School Safety Guidelines regarding: academic eligibility policies, athletic transportation, and complaint procedures.
  • Practical Operations & Accountability

    • Manages inherits, logistics of practice schedules and team commitments with support from the Head Coach and Athletic Director.
    • Distributes, collects, and maintains team uniforms/equipment.
    • Ensures emergency contact information is available at all competitions/practices.
  • Athlete Development & Performance

    • Teaches, enforces, and adapts core strategies and technical skills for participatory success.
    • Monitors strategy execution, individual performance, and team cohesion, providing dynamic coaching guidance.
  • Behavior & Professional Conduct

    • Promotes sportsmanship, respect, and disciplined conduct among athletes.
    • Utilizes appropriate corrective measures if student behavior strays from standards or policies.
  • Administrative & Faculty Interaction

    • Collaborates with administrators (e.g., Athletic Director, deans) to integrate athletic leadership into the broader school and religious mission.
    • Coordinates logistics (such as space, time scheduling) notifying the office when changes occur—prioritizing minimal interference with academic schedules.
    • Communicates effectively with parents (responds to inquiries), demonstrates timeliness in all communications.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Effectiveness in this role demands:

  • Broad Awareness of Catholic Doctrine and educational values specific to adolescent formation.
  • Strong foundational understanding of adolescent physical development, techniques of sports, and related FFMS/LSS obligations.
  • Proficiency in sport-specific technical instructional, rewriting, and explanation of strategies.
  • Developed abilities crucial for teaching:
    • Motivation and engagement skills tailored to young athletes.
    • Organization, clarity, and adaptability in conveying critical information.
    • Technology familiarity (e.g., schedulers, messaging platforms, membership databases).
    • Critical Thinking methods to resolve group challenges and practical concerns.

Minimum Qualifications

Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience Preferences

  • Prior high school soccer coaching or playing experience valued.

Certifications & Compliance

Mandatory upon hire:

  • Valid CPR certification & First Aid Training (documented every 2 years).
  • Current Texas Driver’s License.
  • Valid Background Check filed with Diocese of Austin.
  • Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) Application to be submitted within the first week of employment.
  • EIM Basic Abuse Prevention Workshop, completed within 60 days of submitting EIM Application.
  • Ongoing compliance throughout employment term with EIM standards.

Physical & Working Demands
