An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Initial Teacher Education to join our vibrant, creative academic community in the School of Education.

The successful candidate will contribute to all aspects of teaching and curriculum development for Primary Initial Teacher Education programmes, with a particular focus on teaching primary English.


About the Role

The post holder will work closely with the:

  • Head of Initial Teacher Education
  • Programme Directors
  • Programme Leaders

Key responsibilities:

  • Support the delivery of the ITE Partnership Curriculum (Primary) and enhance Bath Spa Teachers’ (BST) experience for students.
  • Assist in student recruitment.
  • Lead a select aspect of the School’s operations.

Essential:

  • Subject expertise in primary English spanning KS1 and KS2.
  • Ability to explain how subjects connect across the curriculum for trainees.
  • Working proficiency in (interdisciplinary contexts](#).

As an Academic Tutor, this role involves:

  • Supporting and assessing trainees on the BA Primary Education (5-11) with QTS.
  • Providing [specialist guidance] and professional recommendations for QTS.

About You

Essential requirements:

  • Good first degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Extensive experience of primary teaching.
  • Excellent teaching ability with demonstrable interest in pedagogic innovation.
  • Strong interpersonal, networking, communication and IT skills.
  • Deep understanding of education policies affecting primary teacher training in England.
  • Proven expertise in teaching primary English and nurturing trainee development.

Desirable experience:

  • Supporting trainee teachers or Early Career Teachers (ECTs).
  • DBS (enhanced check) already in place. (Note: This post is subject to an enhanced DBS clearance.)
  • Experience working in Higher Education or ITE programmes.
  • **Ambition to develop a remarked research and publication profile on teaching/education policy.
  • Awareness of changing Higher Education (HE) landscapes and its bearing on the School/Department/University.

Additional Information

Salary (pro rata for 0.6 FTE position): Starting point at £26,847 (full-time equivalent) rising to £33,921 plus annual potential progression to £44,746–£56,536 *Initial appointment likely at the lower threshold unless exceptional circumstances apply.
