Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Initial Teacher Education (Primary English) – Part Time (0.6 FTE)
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Initial Teacher Education to join our vibrant academic community in the School of Education.
The role primarily focuses on:
- Leading primary English Initial Teacher Education (ITE) provision
- Contributing to Primary BA ITE programmes and curriculum development
- Supporting trainee teacher recruitment, assessment, and professional recommendations for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
About the Role
You will collaborate closely with the Head of Initial Teacher Education, Programme Directors, and fellow educators to:
- Deliver high-quality ITE Partnership Curriculum (Primary) with a strong emphasis on KS1 & KS2 English progression
- Foster an interdisciplinary approach, linking English with other primary subject areas across the curriculum
- Mentor and assess trainee teachers, ensuring they advance towards QTS professional standards
- Contribute to enhancing Bath Spa Teachers’ (BST) experience and improving student recruitment
The role demands expertise in: ✔ Pedagogical innovation in primary education ✔ Subject knowledge relating to primary English standards, assessment, and policy ✔ Leadership of specified aspects of School operations ✔ Trainee teacher development and early-career support

About You (Essential)
- Relevant first-degree qualification OR
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in the UK
- Extensive experience as a primary classroom teacher, specialising in English
- Demonstrated passion for pedagogical innovation and progression in primary education
- Proven ability to collaborate within an interdisciplinary or partnerships-based setting
- Strong interpersonal, networking, and communication skills
- Secure knowledge of primary education policies (including evolving teacher training and school system reforms in England)
- Experience supporting initial teacher trainees and Early Career Teachers (ECTs) academics
- Familiarity with higher education landscape and its alignment to vocational teacher training
- Desire to develop a research and publication profile in teacher education
Additional Considerations
- Availability: Tuesday–Thursday preferred, with flexibility at key points (e.g., year-end)
- Interviews: Online, Tuesday 4th August 2026
- Start Date: Immediate start preferred
Salary Scale
Range: £44,746 to £56,536 (pro rata for 0.6 FTE)
- Default entry point is lower band unless exceptional circumstances apply
