Part-time Senior Document Controller

About the Role We are seeking an organised, detail‑driven professional to take on a combined role of Quality Assurance (QA) Checker and Common Data Environment (CDE)Document Controller and Project Programmer. This position is ideal for an experienced individual with a strong understanding of engineering documentation standards, quality processes, and regulatory requirements within the UK structural and civil engineering sector. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring that all technical outputs, project documentation, and controlled records are accurate, that the technical delivery is planned as the technical leaders require and that output is compliant with auditory requirements. Key Responsibilities Quality Assurance (QA) Checker Review engineering drawings, reports, specifications, and calculations for quality assurance compliance. Verify and insist on compliance with internal quality procedures, industry standards (e.g., Client Bim Execution Plans (BEPS)), and client requirements. Conduct pre‑issue checks to ensure documents are technically complete and meet company formatting and quality guidelines (not the engineering content). Support project teams in identifying quality issues, providing feedback, and suggesting corrective actions. Engage with project delivery teams on a weekly basis to provide and update the internal delivery programmes (Generally done on MS project) Ensure adherence to ISO 9001 quality management processes and participate in internal audits where required. Document Controller Lead and manage document control activities across multiple projects, ensuring efficient document workflows. Train engineering teams in the use of Common Data Environments (CDE’s) and ensure that these platforms are used appropriately Maintain accurate records using document management systems, including Autodesk Docs for document issues Oversee the registration, tracking, and distribution of drawings, models, specifications, and other project documents. Ensure version control practices are followed. Coordinate incoming and outgoing transmittals with clients, contractors, and third parties. Train or support junior staff in document control procedures. Maintain project filing structures in accordance with company and ISO standards. Skills & Experience Required Essential Strong understanding of engineering documentation, drawing standards, and QA processes. Proven experience using digital document management systems. Exceptional attention to detail with a methodical and organised approach. Strong communication skills. Ability to work independently and manage workload efficiently in a part‑time capacity. Desirable Previous experience in a structural or civil engineering consultancy. Experience with ISO 9001 quality management systems. Familiarity with BIM workflows and COBie documentation. Experience using MS project Knowledge of UK construction and engineering standards. Experience supporting multi‑disciplinary project teams. Personal Attributes Proactive and solution‑focused.
