Part Time Veterinary Surgeon
Veterinary Surgeon (Part-Time, 27 Hours per Week) – Medivet Dorchester 24 Hour
Are you looking for a challenging role in a busy local veterinary hospital, but want the peace and quiet of the countryside? Look no further than Medivet Dorchester, just a stone’s throw from the Jurassic Coast and all the sights and activities it has to offer.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our dedicated team, with a focus on excellent customer and patient care.
The Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly and experienced team at Medivet Dorchester 24 Hour, a recently refurbished, multi-disciplinary hospital located just a short drive from the stunning Jurassic Coast.
Dorchester 24 Hour has a strong regional presence, providing the out-of-hours care for five Medivet branches and seven non-Medivet practices, giving scope for a wide range of clinical cases.
You will be working within a highly skilled and supportive team, which includes:
- Certificate holders in cardiology
- Diagnostic imaging
- Internal medicine
- Dermatology
- Emergency and critical care
This creates an excellent environment for professional development, collaboration, and learning, and providing all-round care for our patients, from first-opinion work to more advanced and challenging cases.
Facilities & Amenities
Our fully-equipped hospital delivers exceptional patient care, featuring:
- CT scanner (supporting internal and outpatient referrals)
- Laparoscopic surgery
- Digital X-ray and ultrasound
- Dental X-ray
- Endoscopy
- Two sterile surgical suites
- Dedicated in-house laboratory
- Hydrotherapy unit (staffed two days per week)
- Peripatetic physiotherapist
- Isolation facilities
- Separate dog and cat wards (ISFM Silver Cat Friendly Status)
- 24/7 care supported by an ECC-certified night vet and experienced nursing team

Ideal Candidate
This is an excellent opportunity for a:
- Confident veterinary surgeon

As the out-of-hours provider and regional hospital, we remain committed to excellent first-opinion client care. The role will involve:
- Routine consultations
- Varied in-patient care
Candidates should have:
- At least 2 years of proven UK experience
- Ability to thrive in a busy, forward-thinking environment
- Passion for the beauty and lifestyle benefits of the Dorset coast
- Strong client care skills in consult and medical/surgical case management
As primarily a first-opinion practice, the successful candidate must also be keen to:
- Provide exceptional client care in consult rooms and case management
- Collaborate within a supportive team, even for complex scenarios
Working Arrangements
This is a part-time role, averaging 27 hours per week, including one weekend shift every six weeks.

You’re a qualified MRCVS with:

Key Responsibilities
Typically, you will:
- Deliver exceptional clinical care in consults and surgery (compliance with regulatory, practice, and operational standards)
- Develop tailored treatment plans with clients
