About the School
We are recruiting for a Pastoral Lead to join our renowned Grove Road SEN School based in Sutton, South London.
Grove Road School is an independent specialist day school dedicated to providing high-quality education for pupils aged 11-19 with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Autism.
The school delivers comprehensive support to help every young person thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
About the Role
In this pivotal role, you will:
- Manage pastoral welfare requirements strategically and operationally
- Ensure thorough delivery of the school’s ethos and standards
- Foster a supportive and nurturing environment
- Empower students to reach their full potential
Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Take the strategic lead in managing the safety and attendance of all learners
- Oversee implementation of school policies, systems, and procedures for attendance and punctuality
- Assist the Headteacher in developing pastoral provisions for learners

Team & Student Support
- Foster a positive and ambitious team ethos, motivating and supporting staff
- Monitor staff performance with constructive challenge
- Lead engaging assemblies and pastoral initiatives
Communication & Collaboration
- Be an exemplary communicator with staff, pupils, parents, and external agencies
- Liaise with teachers to arrange appropriate class cover during staff absences
Staff Development & Recruitment
- Conduct appraisal reviews
- Contribute to new staff induction
- Assist in interviews and school promotion at events and open days
Safeguarding & Intervention
- Participate in Positive Handling and de-escalation technique training
- Promote safeguarding standards and welfare of students
