Pastoral Manager – Higher Level
(independent regarding Child Protection, Safeguarding, Mental Health/Counselling Services)
Role Overview
Location: Springfield School (11–16 age range) Ofsted Rating: Good (2025) Philosophy: “Leaders ensure every pupil feels valued.”
A vital and responsive post is available ** seawater 01 September 2026**. This role requires an experienced, proactive Pastoral Manager to lead safeguarding, child protection, and mental health provisions for our inclusive and high-performing school community.
Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Coordination:
- Managing a small team to provide holistic pastoral support (safeguarding, child protection, mental health counselling, etc.)
- Collaborate with the Senior Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and school leaders

Pastoral Support:
- Advise and support children in times of distress or concern
- Ensure all safeguarding incidents are recorded, reviewed, and escalated appropriately Breaking down barriers to help vulnerable students thrive

School Engagement:
- Serve as a key point of contact for staff, students (especially at-risk groups), parents, and external agencies>
- Facilitating termly and dedicated pauses for in-depth pastoral dialogues/seamless cross-team collaboration

- Professional Development & Safeguarding Duty:
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of child protection/multi-agency working laws and guidance
- Improving awareness through opportunities for continuous professional development (CPD)
- Regular reports to senior leaders on safeguarding performance/pupil well-being trends
Requirements
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: Expertise in child protection, safeguarding policies or counselling work (preferably combination of both)
- Leadership: Proven ability to manage teams effectively in an educational context
- Communication: Strong verbal/written skills to liaise with school/university-professional networks

- Integration: Adapt quickly to whole-school decisions whilst maintaining pastoral boundaries

Additional Considerations
- We expect staff to uphold safeguarding within their duties. This includes:
- Supporting child protection processes
- Overseas posts and specialist online checks are part of our internal safer recruitment policy (e.g. DBS, online criminal history, teacher status verification via Department for Education)
- Demonstrate commitment to educational mental health and safeguarding standards

Salary & Working Conditions
- Grade: A6 # Springfield School status
- Salary Range:
- Full-Time (per year): £32,061–£36,363
- On 40-week framework (excluding term time): £28,546–£32,377
Note: Schools hours and structures. Full-time staff follow the terms relevant school’s term times.
