Pastoral Support Assistant – Cockshut Hill School

Term-time only + 2 weeks Contract

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join Cockshut Hill School within the Summit Learning Trust. The Pastoral Support Assistant will play a key role in ensuring the pastoral and academic progress of learners, particularly in one or more year groups, while upholding school policies and procedures.

As part of a dynamic academy team, you’ll collaborate closely with colleagues to promote positive behaviour, enhance attendance, and foster a strong support network for students. The role is ideal for an enthusiastic, organised, and empathetic professional who thrives in a collaborative learning environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Pastoral Support & Behaviour:
    • Investigate and document all behaviour incidents across the school.
    • Work closely with parents/carers to address concerns and improve learner behaviour.
    • Coach students to develop self-discipline and positive behaviours.
  • Attendance & Engagement:
    • Actively promote learner attendance through outreach and motivational strategies.
  • Facilitatory Roles:
    • Rotate supervision of the internal exclusion room, ensuring a fair and structured environment.
    • Support colleagues with behaviour management strategies and capacity-building.
  • Administrative Duties:
    • Manage records to ensure clear, effective communication across departments.
    • Contribute to wholeschool policy development and implementation.

About You

This role requires a candidate with:

  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise a varied workload.
  • Exceptional interpersonal abilities, allowing established trust within the pastoral team and families.
  • A deep understanding of safeguarding principles, in line with Summit Learning Trust requirements.
  • Flexibility and resilience to handle pressing situations with calm, professional composure.
  • Basic admin skills, including registering incidents and maintaining learner records.
