Pastoral Mentor
Pastoral Mentor Application Deadline: 3 July 2026 Department: Cadbury Student Services Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time Location: Cadbury College Compensation: £18,306 - £21,209 / year
Description We are looking to recruit an experienced, enthusiastic, and proactive Pastoral Mentor to join our Pastoral team.
This role plays a key part in supporting our students to achieve their full potential. We require a driven individual with the coaching ability to mentor and support 16 to 18-year-old students to achieve and develop academically and emotionally. You will act as a trusted point of contact, helping learners build the confidence and resilience they need to improve their attendance, retention, and behaviour. If you are passionate about helping young people overcome personal and educational challenges to ensure excellence in their learner journey, we want to hear from you!
Key Responsibilities As a Pastoral Mentor, you will work closely with learners, curriculum teams, and support services to ensure our students receive the right support at the right time. Your key duties will include:
Individualised Student Support: Provide tailored pastoral mentoring to individual students and small groups across all curriculum areas, setting clear actions and tracking progress via RAG ratings. Collaboration with Teams: Work closely with our Programme Achievement Managers to support ‘at risk’ learners in a range of learning settings. Attendance & Engagement Monitoring: Effectively use college MIS systems to identify poor attendance, offering proactive advice and motivating students to take responsibility for their own attendance, including English and maths lessons. Academic & Emotional Coaching: Encourage and motivate learners to succeed, helping them develop accountability and resilience. Thorough Record Keeping: Complete student/mentor contracts using assessment tools and maintain comprehensive data records of student meetings and outcomes. Safeguarding & Welfare: Identify individual learner needs early, promoting positive behaviour and respect, and making formal referrals to safeguarding or specialist services when appropriate.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
