Pastoral Support Worker
Scale Point 5 - £23,774 - £25,361
37 hours per week (8-4pm Monday to Thursday and 8.30-3.30pm on Friday) - Term Time + 5 days Pro Rata
One-year fixed-term contract with the strong possibility of extension
Start date: ASAP
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled Pastoral Support Worker to join the Inclusion Team at Fernhurst Junior.
The role will involve working closely with the Inclusion Lead, and class teachers, to support pupils and their families with a range of special needs, ensuring that the school remains a fully inclusive environment.
Fernhurst Junior School is a Local Authority mainstream junior school with a dedicated and supportive staff, and a diverse pupil population. The school has a strong presence within the local community and enjoys a positive reputation with parents and carers. Governors are looking to appoint a hardworking, committed individual who is willing to contribute to all aspects of school life.
The successful candidate will have:
- A good standard of general education to at least A Level or equivalent (including a pass in Maths and English GCSE)
- Relevant experience or qualifications in learning support or family support
- Be organised, efficient and professional in their approach and have good interpersonal skills.
- Have excellent behaviour management skills.
- Be caring, understanding and patient.
- The ability to develop positive professional relationships with pupils and adults
- A willingness to undertake further training

The role will involve:
- Supporting pupils with a range of special needs, both in and out of the classroom
- Delivering emotional literacy, and similar, interventions under the direction of the class teacher and Senior Leadership Team
- Liaising with and signposting families to appropriate external agencies
- Completing referrals and, where appropriate, representing the school at inter agency meetings
