Pastry Commis Chef

Location: Marcliffe Hotel & Spa, Aberdeen
Job Type: Full-Time

Marcliffe is looking for a passionate and enthusiastic Pastry Commis Chef to join our talented kitchen team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about pastry, eager to develop their skills, and committed to producing exceptional desserts and baked creations within a prestigious hospitality environment.

Working alongside our Head Pastry Chef and senior chefs, you will play an important role in delivering beautifully presented desserts and supporting the day-to-day operation of the pastry kitchen.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook high-quality pastry dishes and desserts.
  • Accurately measure ingredients and portion sizes.
  • Decorate pastries and desserts using a variety of sauces, toppings and garnishes.
  • Present and plate desserts to the highest standard.
  • Receive and check deliveries, ensuring products meet quality standards.
  • Assist with stock replenishment and inventory control.
  • Support stock rotation and ensure ingredients are stored correctly.
  • Help maintain excellent food hygiene and kitchen cleanliness standards.
  • Complete daily cleaning tasks and maintain sanitised workstations.
  • Assist with food safety procedures and kitchen compliance.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider kitchen team and support other chefs when required.
  • Contribute to company-wide events and special functions.

About You

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Passionate about pastry and creating beautifully presented, five-star quality desserts.
  • Eager to learn and develop within a professional kitchen.
  • Organised with good communication skills.
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a busy team.
  • Calm under pressure with excellent attention to detail.
  • Adaptable, flexible and willing to work a varied rota including mornings, evenings and weekends.
  • Physically fit and comfortable working in a fast-paced kitchen environment.

Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience in pastry preparation, either in a professional kitchen or through further education.
  • A sound understanding of food hygiene and food safety regulations.
  • Food Hygiene Certificate, or willingness to work towards obtaining one.
  • A positive attitude, strong work ethic and a genuine passion for hospitality.
