Personal Assistant / Support Worker

Location: Ayr

Rate of Pay: £13.45 per hour

Hours – flexible as agreed by employer, weekend work is required

Essential:

  • Applicants must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle

Duties

We are looking for a caring, reliable, and enthusiastic Personal Assistant to provide one-to-one support for a friendly non-verbal 16-year-old young lady living in the Ayr area.

The role involves supporting her to enjoy community activities and maintain her independence while ensuring her safety and wellbeing. She has epilepsy, so an awareness of health and safety and the ability to respond calmly in different situations are important.

She enjoys shopping, going out for coffee and lunch, visiting the cinema, bowling, music, and taking part in other activities within the community. A full driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential, as driving will form part of the role.

You must also be willing to take the person's arm and offer support with walking to ensure that there is less risk of a fall if she has a seizure.

The successful applicant will also provide personal care support, including assistance with washing, getting changed, eating and drinking, and cutting up food at mealtimes when required.

Qualities

We are looking for someone who is friendly, chatty, patient, caring, and dependable with a good sense of humour. You should be comfortable providing personal care, have good communication skills, and be able to build a positive and supportive relationship. She enjoys spending time with someone who is fun, engaging, and not afraid to be a little silly. An understanding of health and safety responsibilities is also essential.

Training

You may be required to undertake training which will be provided to oversee medication, including prompting and record keeping, epilepsy training, and moving and assisting training.

Applicants must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle. Two satisfactory references will be required, including one from a previous employer, and the successful candidate will be required to join or be a member of the PVG Scheme. Previous care or support experience would be beneficial, although it is not essential for someone with the right values, attitude, and willingness to learn.
