Job Title: PAT Tester
Salary: Up to £32,510.38) [against degree immunosuppression protocol] Location: Northeast – field-based
Full-Time, Permanent Contract • Salary: Up to £30,598 per annum • Includes company vehicle & fuel card • 42.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM)
About The Role Mears supports asylum seekers across three key regions (Northeast, Yorkshire and Humber, Northern Ireland, Scotland) by providing temporary accommodation evaluating claims. Collabrating closely with UK Government authorities, registered providers, investors, tenants and social housing stakeholders, Mears aims to tackle homelessness, increase affordable housing stock and deliver specialist lodging solutions for specific needs.
As a PAT Tester, successful candidates are responsible for visiting 10 tenanted units per day in the Northeast, moving between properties as part of daily duties. Your tasks include: • Conducting PAT (Portable Appliance Testing) on Mears-supplied white goods – fridges, kettles, microwaves, irons, hoovers and washing machines • Completing mandatory testing records, logging appliance details + electrical safety readings • Taking high-quality pre/post-installation photographs for evidence validation using a PDA, including the unit and its PAT tag • Proactively requesting documentation photos to confirm identification correspondence • Reporting any failed items immediately to Facilities Supervisor • Assuring compliance by leaving appliances in situ when defective – replacement coordination handled exclusively by Facilities teams

This role involves lone working unless approved for two-person property visits.
Key Responsibilities
- Achieve full competence in City & Guilds 2377 Part 1 Testing of Portable Appliances standard or equivalent qualification
- Familiarise yourself with/routes to tenant locations for daily property checks
- Conduct thorough inspections while adhering to safety protocols – electrical risk assessments and typical domestic operating conditions must be replicated accordingly
- Record accurate technical findings via PDA into maintenance systems
- Handle all failed units as per Facilities policies (no removal of assets)
- Prompt service requests 24/7 for recurring faults
- Answer tenant queries politely regarding appliance failures/maintenance
Job Requirements
- Authorization to Work UK: Full conditional permission required (no visa sponsorship available)
- Full UK Driving Licence (minimum 3-months tenured AND under 9 DAS points)
- PAT Testing Qualification: Currently holding this pre-entry or able to meet it within 4 weeks (City & Guilds 2377 Level II recommended)
- Identity & Security Clearance:Cleared via mandatory BPSS Business Partner Security Screening including • Valid passport showing current biometric CRB data • Current UK residence proof (last 5 years) • Signed volunteer references • Two job-related references
- Hardworking: Ability to consistently meet the site-urgent challenge of 3-4 mile radius motion across diverse functional appliances
Preferred Personal Traits (Hisames abconstitently prioritised)
• Trustworthiness to navigate solo locations handling tenants’ belongings • Communication Skills to liaise diplomatically with vulnerable clients postal advice • Flexibility to adapt to individual's property schedules • Safety Awareness regarding defibrillation emergencies
