PAT Tester

PAT Tester – Northeast (Field-Based)

Salary & Hours

  • Annual salary: up to £32,510.38 (including £30,598 basic + commercial vehicle & fuel card)
  • 42.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm

About the Role

Mears provides temporary accommodation to asylum seekers in the Northeast, Yorkshire & Humber, Northern Ireland, and Scotland, working in partnership with government agencies to address homelessness and support social/affordable housing. As a PAT Tester, you will:

  • Visit ~10 tenanted properties daily, testing Mears’ supplied white goods (fridges, kettles, microwaves, irons, hoovers, washing machines).
  • Complete test documentation, recording appliance details, electrical readings, and capturing before/after photographs with a PDA device.
  • Confirm appliance identity via requested photos.
  • Report any failed items immediately to the Facilities Supervisor; replacements will be arranged for items like fridges/washing machines (which must not be removed).
  • Perform duties alone or in pairs, as required.

Key Responsibilities

✔ Conduct regular Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) on assigned appliances. ✔ Record and report findings accurately using provided checklists. ✔ Drive across the Northeast to complete visits efficiently. ✔ Maintain trustworthiness and professionalism with tenants/colleagues.


Essential Requirements

  • Valid PAT Testing qualification (City & Guilds 2377 or equivalent).
  • Full UK driving licence (held for >3 months, <9 points, aged 21+).
  • Reliable transport (company van/fuel card provided).
  • Discretion & trustworthiness (additional background checks required).
  • Strong communication skills for tenant interactions.
  • Hardworking & adaptable to field-based travel.
